Mbari 2,227 Posted March 14, 2021 Howdy from Texas! Y'all know I love my 4 digits, especially the build that need a lot of work with shaving cases, re-lume, aging etc. Now 5 digits are a different story. It's all about sourcing parts and the rest is plain jane assembly. Putting it in terms of cars. I see 4 digits as souping up your JDM honda and Subaru, and even Mopar stuff, with your buddies, maybe a shade tree mechanic from the local shops. Now franken 4 digits are like resto modding vintage air-cooled P cars, big money stuff. 5 digits are like Dinan BMWs, dealership certified, warranty and stuff. Anyway moving on to this build: SUMMARY: The Coke is really growing on me, despite being skeptical in the beginning. Always took myself as a 4 digit 1675 kinda dude. Parts: The band of misfits Gen dial with great patina, despite a missing index Gen insert with the right shade of fade Gen Crystal, chipped Gen tube, rusted up Gen crown, nicely aged from use Gen open 6/9 datewheel. For those who know they know their worth Gen gaskets Gen click spring for bezel Vietnam case, really packs the piece together we'llClark's hands, relumed VR3186 from m2m sale Raffles 7836 bracelet, oiled and pampered with 593 endlinks Next steps: Crystal is a bit misaligned, so will fix it up laterHave gen hands comingCrown tube needs a bit more countersinkCase lugs need a bit more finesse in refinishing. Mbari 2,227 Posted March 14, 2021 Better and better. Beautiful work. Thanks Rich, most of the Coke work went into haggling prices and patience. Assembly took 35 minutes before the kids woke up this morning. Guess I'm masochistic, I don't think it's a serious build until you have had to mess with a dwo not aligning with dial, rubbing against it etc. That said, both of these cases needed file work. Mbari 2,227 Posted March 14, 2021 mate. Serious build and investment here. Will be a mint collectors when done. Beautiful. I love a good coke 5 digit. Must be some serious coin in this one. It wasn't as reasonable as my latest 1680 build for sure. But in terms of what you get when you're flexible and patient, it was good value I'd say. Crystal is a bit chipped, dial missing a dot etc.Once I realized that the whole thing could possibly add up to greater than it's parts, a seasoned, worn watch not a box queen.. I was ok.
