Putting a new face on a couple of Casio cheapies

Recommended Posts

I have twin boys, both in university, but one could care less about the university he’s going to. He just wants to hurry through and join the Army as an officer although he already serves in the National Guard and ROTC. The other is a rabid fan for his school.
So it’s their birthday coming up and I decided to create a couple of unique faced quartz divers for them.

I didn’t take initial pics but the looked like this:

Really almost finished by the time I took some pics but I pulled it apart, quartz made that easy, popped the indices out, and put both dials in acetone. That stuff will eat anything so I started with a blank dial.

I printed the decals on clear waterslide paper. This is the reason for clearing the dial and painting it base white as color under the water slide mutes the color.  After applying the waterslide I sprayed it with clear gloss which holds it in place.

In the pics below, I’m gluing the indices back on. PIA, big time.

Both done  and everything goes back together

That’s really good - Two solid pieces made personal, and by you and not someone else!

Great Job

BRILL! ....Cool and personal mods for the youths.... The original Marlin dials are still nice as well in their own right.

Well, they are 21 so define youth...to me, that IS youthful though ;) . I intended to keep the dials but the waterslides said no....

Whatever!!! My watch loving child (currently steals my watches) will probably be asking you for builds soon. I just have to go on a repo mission in his room first...which requires hazard pay...

The oldest one will be 24 this summer and has moved out, but I'm still paying for the last semester of college. The youngest one will be 21 this summer and is still living at home. Probably different with twins, but they couldn't be more opposite. The oldest has never seen a dollar he can't spend and the youngest hoards money like cvp3 collects watches.

IIRC Casio will also be removing the Marlin graphic from the dials on future editions of the Duro

Interesting gift, but for me it is better than the usual classic watch model, it even wears Bill Geitz W214H-1AV
