Popperini 17,833 Posted May 16, 2021 Any update? The suspense is killing me.The milling bits arrived at the end of the week, and I intended to put them to catastrophic use this weekend. But other “life stuff” is taking priority just at the mo, and I need to be in a more gung-ho frame of mind before I tackle this. Autocorrect changes “gung-ho” to “hung-go”... Popperini 17,833 Posted June 1, 2021 I'm very reluctantly posting this update. This little project has gone exactly the way I knew it would. I really should learn not to practice on expensive things. When I saw daylight through the hole, I laughed, then I cried a little bit. And I knew, I knew immediately, that the drill bit would have deflected off just enough to nick the edge of the lug. It had. So, now I need a replacement JF or equivalent midcase, and a new bracelet. Anyone?

I'm not sure what the cost is for laser welding - but good point, it'd be worth getting a quote. It has crossed my mind (I also have a 16610 with a dented TC case that I keep meaning to send to Adrian for welding). Oh, in other news - the bracelet still won't come off. I'm about to attack it with an angle grinder, and when that fails, a gas axe.

He'll be on an industrial laser weld website as you write, spending £120k on the latest, high intensity lance only when he fucks up fixing the watch next time, he will also melt most of Eastern Europe. STEP AWAY FROM THE WORKBENCH!!!!! Sorry Popples - I was convinced you were going to ace this one, especially when you took so long to do it carefully.

Intresting 21,692 Posted June 1, 2021 @Popperini Keep this watch as a prize for our upcoming annual RWG festival. It should go to the one that can come up with the most inventive, entertaining cautionary tale ever. And meanwhile, just go get yourself a new watch already so that you can stop trying to saw the world in half.
deju 1,873 Posted June 1, 2021 @Popperini in fairness for a first attempt it could have been worse, a tiny weld and a buff will sort that. Ginger has done a lot worse with out power tools. At this point as the end link is being sacrificed. It might be best to either angle the drill bit inward to the center of the end link or just drill a few holes in it to weaken the spring bar.

A nice little birth year gen Tudor Oyster Prince arrived this morning. Only thing is, it needs a replacement crown - it's fitted with a horrible sterile job. OR maybe I could just fix a Rolex crown onto it... Now, where did I put my new laser welder..?
