and yet,  ZZF,  VSF,  ARF,  Noob are not available.  So comments should be prefaced with. "when back in the days when we can get them..."   :)

Do you think the wait list on a Noob Daytona is going to exceed the AD wait list?

Should I now be posting my Noob Daytona in the gen wristie thread? It’s a gen Noob.

The 114060 is the no-date model (as opposed to 116010 which is one with the date window and cyclops) so the gen Date Wheel will not be necessary.

Crystal does not have the cyclops (which is always a tell to some degree) so I don't really see the reason to swap it. The only very small improvement would be the 'gen' laser-etched crown at 6 o'clock which is extremely small and almost invisible during normal use. Nobody would be able to tell the difference without comparing it to the gen under a huge magnification.

Gen Bezel + Insert is definitely an improvement - the biggest of all.

Hands and perhaps a crown could also do, although again, it's not something you can spot on the hand, so it will come down to how picky you are.

Regarding the factory, you have s options - ZZF V3 or VSF.  Although the generic hype consensus within the community is currently inclined towards the VSF, again, it comes down to your preferences. Both are extremely good reps even OOTB. Personally (and against the consensus), when comparing my ZZF V3 114010 to my VSF 116010LV I like the brushing (finishing), the rehaut (etching and brushing), and the bracelet way more than the VSF. VSF seems to have smoother winding movement, better insert, pearl, and crystal protrusion. Also, if you decide to go for the VSF, try to make sure that the serial number starts from S29. Older versions do have a pretty badly misaligned rahaut.

Currently, you cannot get them so you will have to either wait or nail one on M2M.

This was so helpful you have no idea so thank you. Here is what I've decided. I'm going to see if I can get ahold of a ZZF or VSF 114060 either from a TD or rwi.

A gen ceramic bezel insert with pearl is a must for me, but when it comes to the rest of the bezel assembly: I think that may just put me over my budget. Instead of buying a whole new bezel assembly would it be possible and worth it to have it reshaped or something?

I want to get a gen crown because its not that expensive for a lightly used one and the upgrade seems worth it to me. Maybe also the crown tube if possible... ZZF v3's is not close to gen.

When it comes to the hands, I want to replace the minute hand with gen (because it seems the farthest off from gen to me. I also want to replace the second hand with a red one (gen or no gen?). This would give my watch a great personalized flair to it and it would look great imo.

It is my understanding that the ZZF has the VR3010 movement and the VSF has the VS3010. Will these upgrades I all work with either watch?

I've nothing against BK, he seems super reliable and an all round good egg, but personally I see no value anymore (well - next to no value).

The trouble is that the only reps that fit a Gen Swiss ETA, which is of  course a good upgrade, are  generally quite shit compared to the latest greatest standards; the cases look crappy, the inserts are shite, the dial is lousy, the rectangular dial markers horrendous the black hole shocking (Clarks crystal is the only upgrade of his other than the Swiss ETA worth having imo, but even then I prefer VSF) etc etc...

The clone movements are getting so good too. They're normally badly oiled/dirty, but that aside they're really impressive now.

But even if the Gen ETA is great,  any advantage is totally outweighed by the crappy base watch compared to say a new VSF or new Clean Fac (which cost about half a BK btw).

does BK not deal with 3130 movements or something?

The bezel insert - just make sure you are not buying a fake one online. They are quite hard to distinguish if you don't have a proper experience. Better use a reputable source. Hands and crown - very small improvement, but if you want it, sure why not.

One generic remark, for your consideration though:

I don't know whether you ever owned a high-end rep, but there is one thing you should seriously take into consideration. When you are doing your research, going through all the threads, looking at all the photos showing the differences between gen and a rep under a huge magnification, a lot of them may seem very visible. In real life, many of these differences (especially stuff like crown or hands) are super tiny details that are nearly impossible to spot on your hand while you are wearing the watch. Neither by you nor by the people. To be able to spot it, the observer would need to be well trained, get gen and your rep next to each other and compare it, probably under big magnification. Usually, the biggest tells are badly inaccurate pearl, shitty cyclops, and a wonky font on a date wheel. These are something that indeed is quite obvious for a trrained individual and may be visible to some degree while you are wearing the watch. Having said that, keep in mind that the observer would need to have specific knowledge, which 99% of people do not have. Unless you work in a luxury watch boutique or among people who are either watch nerds or sell luxury watches you are extremely unlikely to get called out especially with a 114010 no date sub from ZZF or VSF which are one of the most gen-like (if not the most) Rolex reps produced so far (even out of the box).

To support this argument I will give you a real-life example. I operate within the environment where some of the people I am meeting regularly do wear gens. They are by no means highly trained specialists or watch nerds, they just own a gen Rolex or Omega. Casual watch owners, not watch fanatics. This statistically covers 99% of the population (people who have no clue about watches in general and they don't give a shit anyway and people who just own gen or two but are not highly trained experts). Now. In my office, on the same floor, I have a guy wearing the Omega SMP 300, another guy wears a rather heavily beaten up oldie Rolex explorer white dial, the big boss from time to time appears in 1990s Rolex 16700 GMT Pepsi. As a rep-nerd, I am rather knowledgable comparing to an average Joe who has no idea about watches. Yet still while taking an occasional look at their wrists when having a chat over a coffee I am unable to tell whether what they are wearing is gen with years of use behind it, a franken or a rep. They never called me out for wearing my rep Omegas or Rollies either. At a clinic where I am doing occasional med checks, one doctor wears a gen black dial Rolex Datejust. He even complimented my Rolex rep we started a chat, took a close look at each other's watches, and he had not the slightest clue that mine is not gen. One of the customers I am working for wears a 116518LN Daytona Cosmograph in yellow gold. That's not only an extremely hard to get watch but also a very expensive one. On the grey market, it sells for around $50k. Guess what - I am not entirely sure whether it really is gen or not. The only reason I am supposing it is a rep and not a gen is due to its rarity and a very high price combined with the fact that it seems seriously beaten up (I just cannot imagine that somebody could spend a $50k on a precious metal Daytona then just fk it up like that).   And yes, he never, ever called me out for my Rolex rep either. Remember - 99% of people don't know and don't give a shit.

I don't wanna be killing your vibe, but my honest advice is - get a ZZF V3 or VSF and wear it for a while. See how it looks and feels and see how the people react. Then you can re-assess the idea of going franken with it.  Whatever your decision will be, I am pretty sure that your opinion about what's worth modding and what's not will change.

All in all, when wearing a high-end rep, the biggest tell is you and how you carry yourself with it on the wrist. It's simple. If by generic impression you make, you do look like you can afford the XYZ watch then the people will assume that your rep is a gen. If you look like you definitely cannot afford it, the people most probably assume it's fake even if it really was a gen.

This was my point all along. Don’t sweat small details. He said he wanted a reliable watch. The exterior difference between a modded NOOB v9 and a current ZZF are minuscule

I just adjusted my Explorer clone for being 40 minutes behind. Why? Because the movement is dirty. So I need to send it to OASCOM (who by the way is a gentleman) to service it. It’s gonna cost me 200 bucks. So the money supposedly being saved from a modded watch? Guess what? Probably gonna need to service that clone watch.

Neither one is bad. It’s just stuff to know.
