Vintage Tudor Subs in Japan

Recommended Posts

All of these well below market, out of Japan, different sellers, some with the exact same wording. I guess if you just say, 'hey no repair history may have replacement parts' your covered. How much is a viet build with a 2846? Not saying that's what these are, but not saying they aren't either....

Those cases (2nd and 3rd) are too chunky for their age

The description pretty much says no guarantee of authenticity.   Or as the most elegantly say "Although it has been inspected, it is not recommended for those who are particular about accuracy and the full original condition at the time of completion."

Japan used to be my go to market for top quality secondhand goods, naturally including high end watches, for years.  Lately I am seeing more and more dubious items coming out of Japan - either a) obviously below market value but also obviously dodgy with what appears to be the same item sold by multiple entities b) at market value but not quite right sold by sellers I haven't come across before or c) well above comparative global prices for what appears to be legitimate items from established sellers.  In particular, a couple of watches I bought as gen turned out to be gensteins or superfrankens so I sadly no longer trust luxury goods out of Japan

They are though, aren't they. How depressing.

What's more depressing is I think around 4k was the going rate for Tudor Subs only a couple of years ago.

To my knowledge viet sub/seamaster300 is $800-1000 when bought directly from a dealer. Blancpain FF and chronos I do not know.

Japan yahoo auctions are full of the viet builds, sometimes they do sell below the price from the dealers, and more often biddings end up with twice or even three times than that. I guess those sellers have extended to ebay now.

"There is no need to overhaul for a while as it has just been disassembled, cleaned and inspected."

In other words - "Don't take the back off, otherwise you'll see immediately that you've been scammed"
