Today, I finally looked up what the history was behind bund straps was. It was mostly for wartime use to protect the person wearing the watch from temperature extremes transmitted through the metal case. For example, if deployed in sub freezing temperatures, it prevents the case from causing frostbite. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, the example I read was if there was a cockpit fire, the pilot's wrist would not be burned by the hot metal case. Although with a cockpit on fire, I would assume that might be the least of his worries

Although with a cockpit on fire, I would assume that might be the least of his worries Thanks for that... The bund is a copy of one in pics of the Daytona being worn by Paul Newman. So its primary function was to make a nicely rounded homage to the Newman look. But also, personally, I like a bund strap. And this one was made to my specification by TanGo, so it's even more specialer. Oh, and the watch head is indeed lovely - a VN build by Slay. There's no accounting for taste, eh?
