How do people fall for someone selling a recently released watch but they lose the box and ‘papers’?? And the tells are quite obvious on this.

Insane. I can’t (I can actually) believe that eBay aren’t bothered. I guess if you start it low enough it doesn’t trigger the authentication guarantee so they don’t care.

Yeah I don't even bother reporting them to eBay now.

I do message the sellers sometimes, for a bit of sport. Get some quite snappy responses sometimes - which makes it all the more fun

It will have to go through the authenticity process though.

Nope

The authenticity process has to be agreed prior to

starting the sale.

The only way forward is for the buyer to dispute … all very messy

I think going over the £1500 threshold triggered it as it definitely isn’t legit with that movement

Interesting

I bought a watch for £2k and the seller refused to use authentication. EBay said I didn’t get authentication service because the watch did not say so in the description  - the response from EBay was ….

54:54 UTC Aidan
“There would be other requirements to the value to enable the watch eligible for the authenticity Program, In this case in seems the seller offers collection in person on his listing in addition to postage, This would remove Authenticity from the listing.“
“For Authenticity Guarantee to apply there a few requirements that need to be met for the listing to be eligible in addition to the price threshold, The sellers listing and settings did not meet all of these requirements which is why the Authenticity Guarantee mark was not present on the listing, I fully understand that this may be frustrating however as the order has been made we cannot now go back and apply the authenticity Guarantee, This is why the seller would need to cancel the order and relist the item meeting the requirements. For data protection I cannot contact the seller they would need to request assistance from ebay directly.”
was a messy debate-I did not buy it in the end

So in summary, I bought the watch for £2k. I asked EBay why the authenticity process was not applied, they just wriggled. I had a protracted discussion. The seller did not send it and I got a refund. I suspect it was stolen but I will never know. The lesson for me is to check that the description specifically says that the authenticity process applies.

I wrongly assumed that all watches were automatically authenticated at above £1500.

The listing while active didn’t say authentication guarantee which most do. I thought there was an amount that triggered it so hopefully for the buyer it will go there and get checked.

So just out of interest I looked at this again . The buyer still has 100% positive feedback and the historic listing is still available. I can only assume that the watch was authenticated and everyone was happy.

But there’s no way that’s getting authenticated, I mean look at the movement, even I can tell that’s a fake.
