Alan32 1,080 Posted September 1 In 1942, Winston Churchill announced the establishment of a new branch of army aviation, the Army Air Corps. The corps initially comprised the Glider Pilot Regiment and the Parachute Battalions (subsequently the Parachute Regiment), Air Landing Regiments, and the air observation post squadrons. In March 1944, the SAS Regiment was added to the corps. At the end of the war the Corps was disbanded and its constituent parts went their own ways. On 1st September 1957 the Corps was reactivated and grew from it's humble support role with Auster observation aircraft and the Saunders-Roe skeeter helicopters to the third teeth arm of the British Army with Apache and Wildcat helicopters. The Army Air Corps has had a vital role in every modern conflict from direct anti-tank work ,AOP,AFAC to suport of the Special Forces. Today I am wearing my Bremont AAC special edition in memory of all those who served and sacrificed in a very proud and vital unit.
