LHOOQ 0 Posted August 4, 2011 I've heard a lot of people saying this here. Anyone care to elaborate? I'd rather not throw away good money on a turkey. While I wouldn't call them 'turkeys', all of the Speedy reps available today are fundamentally flawed. If you're expecting something that approaches the current PAMs or, say, the Planet Ocean in terms of replication quality, you'll be disappointed. Additionally, the flaws aren't things you can mod away. In brief, the biggest problems on the reps are (and this varies from rep to rep) flat crystals, flat dials, too-far-apart subdial spacing. The last one is what bugs the most people (though I'd argue that flat glass is the bigger tell from a distance). The Omega cal.861 has very tight subdial spacing, and there's no rep movement that can match it. The Sea-Gull hand-wind is probably the best mechanical Speedy rep available, but you have subdials pushed out to the edges, and a dead hour register at 6. I honestly believe the best Speedy rep overall is one of the cheapie quartz versions, since it gets the most things right. As with the Heuer Monaco, if the factories could get the Speedmaster right, they'd sell a ton. But I don't think it's going to happen.
g.man 0 Posted August 5, 2011 Thanks mate. That's both good and somewhat disappointing to know. Guess I can strike the Speedy of the current list of wants then. regards g.man

denvro 0 Posted March 14, 2012 This model Speedmaster is also nr. 1 on my want list, but i haven't found a rep that matches my criteria. It's disappointing that there is no good Speedmaster Pro rep available. If there is someone that can point me te a nice rep seller, please do.

osteocruncher 0 Posted April 2, 2012 I should have mentioned in the OP that this Speedy's a gen! The Speedmaster has long been one of the most problematic watches to rep, and I don't see the situation improving anytime soon. That solves my next watch dilemma then. Back to my original plan.
