RWG1: Homage Project

Paid Jackson Tse today for a mini-Fiddy case, mounting tabs,

mm128photo3.jpg

- this is Jackson's mini Fiddy - I am getting just the case. I will add a PVD 6497 and sterile "slealth" dial from Getatwatch (I will black out the tick marks on the seconds subdial for full stealth mode). Hands will come from another source. I want black hands - I don't like the hand sets that come with (as most do) with the white seconds hand. I want ALL BLACK except for lume. Strap.... Gorilla?

Jackson's prices sure are right (picked up a few extras too):

HI

here the price include shipping cost from HongKong:

Dome 44mm 1950 mini case US$35

Mounting tab and screw US$2

case ball opener US$3

screw driver set US$10

if ok, paypal [email protected] (pls write down item on paypal)

cheers

Possible a n00b post, this one...

but...

Is the dial going to fit?

The mini-fiddy's a 44mm case, isn't it?

On getat-watch.com, the spec for the 44mm cases is as follows:

Include : 44mm steel with special hard black coating case, see-through caseback, crown, crown guard set, rubber seal, 2 tubes & 2 screws.

Movement : suitable for all 6497 & 6498 movements.

Case diameter : 44mm

Case thickness : 14.5mm

Dial: suitable for all 33.8 - 35.4mm dial

Back : see-through.

Front : special scratch proof mineral glass.

Lug size : 24mm

But the black dial you've ordered is this one (I think???)

Dial : Custom Made black sandwich layered with black numberals, small second subdial at 9 o'clock.

Size : 36.4 mm x 0.7 mm.

7 mm for the second subdial.

Movement : suitable for ETA 6497 or Seagull ST3600 series

Doesn't that mean that the black dial will be too big??

I was wanting the same sort of spec but didn't think it was possible for the above reasons!

Either way, are you going to re-lume in black lume? :D

Not a noob post at all - good call! I forgot the black dial is in the Radiomir which is 45mm and might not fit the 44mm Luminor case. HOWEVER..... that is what files are made for! A good file and patience and taking 1mm off the diameter (or .5mm all the way around) and it will fit.

I don't think that will put the tick marks and numerals noticeably closer to the edge of the chapter ring (or rehaut) - but maybe I am wrong.... If I am, I am only out 14 bucks, so I will give it a try....

Cool, post pics of how you get on! :D

Will you have to be careful of the finish round the edge? I'm not sure how much of the dial fits under the rehaut, therefore how much room you have for error lol

I would try to build my own but it works out cheaper to get everything already built, and I'm skint!! :D

Thing is Getatwatch doesn't have the minnie Fiddy. Decided on that, but want the stealth dial. If it doesn't work I will get a standard sandwich and make it stealth.... As to the black dial I think I will have be careful and take look before hand to see how much margin for error there is.

I am thinking now I will just use emery cloth on it....

Will post pics as things arrive.

by hand John? or maybe a low speed circular or belt sander? I'm thinking you'd get more control on the dial...16_Jeremy_shrug.gif

800 grit on a belt/band sander might take off material like butter but slow enough not to fuck it up too quickly

looking forward to the project pics

Can't wait to see how this turns out as I want to try the same on a 44mm. Total blackout will be the order of the day. Think I'll call it the "Black Ship" in tribute to Hot Black.

I can't read the freaking controll panel. It's all balck with black buttons and when you press one a little black light lights up to tell you you've pressed it!

Note: If you don't recognise the above quote you may just have a life! :thumbsup2:

Oh dear.

I recognised the quote right off. I even spotted that it was actually a misquote. I even know which character said it.

I have no life... :thumbsup2:
