In the case I mentioned, the buyer didn't want pay the $20 extra for tracking

So fuck him.....what do you have to do with a lost parcel?

You offered a garantueed service and he declined....risk on him period.

Are you able to show a receipt that you send anything away on said day?

So why would anyone sell something and not send it tracked&insured?

Discounting the 'cheapskate' and 'stupid' reasons the other grand impediment is that most postal authorities insist on the customs declaration value equalling the insured value - leading to a whole new barrel of grief for the recipient.

I just send a parcel to US

CN23 declared value $25

The parcel however was insured for $300 in case of damage or loss.....customs has no business in postal service fees in Germany.

I'm the only person who knowes the insurance value of the parcel.

So I always insure my parcels for the value of the item.

You are fortunate (in the UK I can do much the same), but as I said in many countries (esp The Land of The Free) you wouldnt get it across the Post Office counter

Really? That is strange.....

For instance DHL Express parcel costs about $35 worldwide up to 10kg.

It's always insured for about $600, no matter what's inside.

So if you send personal photographs of yourself and they get lost, you'll get $600 even if they are worth fucksquat.

Akira, as a rule they don't like that because of the moral hazard. There is an incentive for the parcel to be lost if the contents arent worth more than the insured value

Well to toss a bit more into the mix..............

We are shipping $10k+ per annum, and most times just use regular post.

Its (for us) - the clients call on any "extras".

And do you know what goes missing?

More than 50% of the time a client opts for "Registered", and we are then required to stipulate an insured value, we have a "loss". I reckon the postal workers just sit waiting for higher value parcels to nick.
