wat44 0 Posted August 16, 2011 that may be the practice - but Im not sure that is best practice leads to scams where seller not sending package at all
wat44 0 Posted August 16, 2011 conversely, a refund to the buyer leads to scam claims that the package didnt arrive when it did
houndoggie 58 Posted August 16, 2011 conversely, a refund to the buyer leads to scam claims that the package didnt arrive when it did This is why for watches, or higher priced sales, always use a trackable shipping option.
houndoggie 58 Posted August 16, 2011 A good practice is to address this with each transaction and agree to whatever resolution for this problem before it happens.
wat44 0 Posted August 16, 2011 ok - but are you going to spend money tracking a strap?
houndoggie 58 Posted August 16, 2011 ok - but are you going to spend money tracking a strap? Watches, higher priced straps, I do. Typically anything more than $40-$50. I track.
wat44 0 Posted August 16, 2011 I sold a watch to a guy in Japan a few months ago - $75 - tracking would have been an extra $20 (I think Australia has much higher prices for this) - in that case, it wasnt tracked and turned out fine Just thinking out aloud

If they decline, then they s.o.l. if gets lost.
offshore 0 Posted August 16, 2011 Jesus wat! Did you pack it in a lead box? Remember cartons and packing weigh heaps, but that is plainly excessive. Normal mail up to 1kg is $25.75. Even Registered Post International for 1kg to Japan is only $31.50, and that gives tracking at their end and a signature! Must have been sent in a big steel safe! (Or your office girl is tickling the petty cash!) O/S
wat44 0 Posted August 16, 2011 ok then HD - buyer buys a watch - declines tracking offer then claims non-delivery then claims PPAL dispute to recover money - we do not know if its genuine or indeed if there is a scammer (buyer or seller, nor which one it is!!!) OS - the watch was $75 - the tracking was $

cvp3 2,103 Posted August 16, 2011 Or keep to a continent. Shipping in the states is dirt cheap. Less than $5 for delivery confirmation in a bubble mailer. Not an option if its boxed, but can be done under $10 just the same.

Sturdy box as well. This is the way to go in the USA.

greg_r 83 Posted August 16, 2011 Only way to avoid paypal chargebacks is to insist on tracked shipping (it's what I used to do when trading on eBay). The only time when I'll skip tracking is if I know the buyer REALLY well and we've agreed how to handle it if something goes wrong. Buyer doesn't want to pay for tracking? Tough - no sale. Akira 0 Posted August 16, 2011 Note to myself.....never buy from wat44
Del 4,518 Posted August 16, 2011 I've often thought about this myself. As DB and HD said though, the risk is on the buyer - most listings state clearly that once the package is in the postal system then the risk is passed to the buyer. Even if the seller does not use a tracked service, you can still obtain a "proof of posting" receipt from the Post Office (in the UK in any case) so this gives proof that the seller actually posted the package. You can also claim the Royal Mail (or whoever) for a lost package, albeit the value might be lower than the cost of replacing the item (the insured amount depends on the postage service used of course) - the recovered value would then be due to be paid to the buyer since they didn't receive the package (the seller has the original payment from buyer so has not lost out). wat44 0 Posted August 16, 2011 Why would you say that?
Akira 0 Posted August 16, 2011 Reg. Airmail in Germany is about $6-7 extra $120 insurance costs $2 So for $10 you can send a strap insured for $120 everywhere..... If you need it to be insured for $240 just add another $2 So why would anyone sell something and not send it tracked&insured?
Akira 0 Posted August 16, 2011 Why would you say that? It was a bad ironic joke mate.....sorry
