Dress watch reccomendations, please

Recommended Posts

As James Brown sang

Get up,

Get on up, like a Sax O Mat!

Like the Tuxedo thread a while back, for a dress watch keep it simple. No chronographs, no date, and usualy no seconds.

If you are going for a tuxedo watch, has to be a black band or metal.

I don't think there is a right or wrong here, anything that goes with personality. Perhaps not anything with rubber although some fit perfectly.

Lange.....my vote...followed by omegas....

..but....that's because there's no vintage ingy repped yet!

Or..you could go a Glasschutte Original Senator 60's...

Perhaps not anything with rubber

Hublot wouldn't be around today if weren't for dress watches with a rubber strap, Carlo Croco's company MDM Hublot sold the first dress watch with a vanilla scented rubber strap in the early 70's it was hugely popular with the Monaco / Cote d'Azur in-crowd and helped establish the brand which was formed in 1969.

Another vote here for the Glashutte Senator Sixties - it's a bargain, it's a great dress watch, it's handwind so you can't really fuck it up... Just need to spend some money on a decent strap and it's awesome! :)

Let's not forget some other great classics, starting with JLC, a prestigious name and classic design, followed by something more contemporay, a Radiomir 183 in RG, classic simplicity allied to legibility and great wrist presence, no date, no seconds, just all round clarity of purpose, then the atypical JLC Reverso, a perfect dress watch, the choices are many and varied :)

Jey Jdoe, if you're still around:

Unfortunately not that same guilloche as yours, but SS without the twirl...Which I don't care for either.

Sapphire glass for about $168

I believe the one pictured is the original, here the copy:

I even paid up before I noticed the major defect.

She sent me pics of a few others also, but none to my liking albeit close. If you want the pics I'll post.

When talking about dress watch I'm a big fan of cushion design, like the Radiomir, but I find the Vacheron American 1921 much more classy, with just a bit of extravaganza:

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions guys - lots of stuff for me to pour through here and check out.

The A. Lange Sex on a mat has grown on me, and I think it's between that and a Glashutte Senator.

Anyone know where I can find the Glaschutte? and the kind of money we're talking for it?

You know, the more I see the Glashutte Senator 60's watch the more I want one.

Is this a rep where there are different "grades" out there? Or is there just one factory pumping these out with no "super reps" available?

Feel free to give reccomendations on which dealers have the best version of this watch.

Yup, a real shame they never repped that one, not a good rep anyway, VERY HOT.
