WebWind 1 Posted September 28, 2011 This is my modded home made Rolex like pressure tester. Construction of pressure tester was inspired by this thread on RWI. http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthrea...r-30-28682.html I had plan of this tester in my head for a long time, but I could not find bottle or jar which could be pressured to 3 or 5 ATM and which is made from transparent material. I would like to thank to mucrewbtp (@ RWI) for great tip for bottle and olworthers (@ RWI) for taking some pics, because I forgot to take some at beginning of my work OK so lets start. Material: - Nalgene 1L wide mouth bottle (13€) - valve (0.26€) - drilling machine (from father’s garage) - drill (from father’s garage) - vegetable oil (can be replaced by olive oil, soap or … other lubricant) - one brother (my is younger) - Urpiner Cherry (beer from local brewery) - 2 bottles (0.50€/bottle) - pump with manometer (cca 10€) Now some pics Valve (picture by olworthers @ RWI) My valve was also cca 15 mm. So I drilled hole in the middel of lid first with 8mm and then with 13 mm drill. As lubricant I used vegetable oil. After some pushing and pulling valve was in place. Younger brother is very handy in this step. And yes, no glue was used. In first test I heard some leaks at about 2 ATM. After greasing of worm all leaks stops. I tested it to 4 ATM with no leaks Some people @RWI placed valve on wall of bottle. I think that it is not a good idea. Bottle is from hard and resistant material, but it is not a monolithic construction. Drilled hole can weak bottle wall and after applying some pressure (I have 17†tyres on my car pressured @ 2.1 ATM and this bottle is only 1L and can not expand as tyre), bottle could explode and fragments can make serious damage on your face for example. @ RWI thread mentioned above is discussion how much pressure can this bottle stand. SMIDSY post that his bottle expoded @ 7 bar (cca 7 ATM, cca 101.5 PSI) Uwe (fine_dd) pumped this bottle to 5 ATM to test Del's watch. (pic is borrowed from fine_dd's Feedback section) I was thinking about how to hang watch and I was not satisfied with scotch tape method. So I glued some electrician cable holders with epoxy glue on lid. With some typical watchmaking tools I made some hangs from paperclips. Test of hanging system I choose my cca 10 years old Casio Edicife EFA 116 to test. Under pressure I was not expecting it, but my watch failed the test. I spotted bubble stream coming from pusher @ 3. I need to fix it Thanks for watching.

COMPLICATIONS 0 Posted September 28, 2011 SORRY FOR ASKING THE OBVIOUS BUT I HAVENT SEEN THIS BEFORE do you pressurise the vessel thenwait for the pressure to equalise through any leaks in the watch then tip it up so the watch submerges then release the pressure and watch for the tell tale bubbles? I pressurized bottle, wait cca 2 minutes, leaned the bottle so watch was fully immersed and then slowly released pressure with valve and watched for bubbles. Great how to can be downloaded HERE.
