What's with all the Panerai love?

Ok I admit they're dead sexy watches but why are they soooooo popular on here? I think the simplicity of the 177 is great and of course I want one but I'm looking for a skinny watch. Pref something with a black dial, clear numbers (not roman numerals) and a silver coloured case. Sounds simple but I'm having a hard time finding one! OK the Patek below would be idea but I'm can't find a rep and a gen is everso slightly out of my price range!!

I personally don't get the appeal behind panerai.

Thought the exact same thing when I joined this forum. But I bought one, wore it for a bit and now fully understand why :)

If you haven't already, get a cheap rep and feel the loooove.

Ok confession time ... don't most of the panerais look very similar. What would you recommend as a starter? Anything I should avoid?

I'm definitely not the most knowledgable on this, but when I was contemplating getting one I started with a 8 days GMT. Later on moved on to a proper 111. I think that's a nice classic look. Chunky, manly watches, but still with loads of style and elegance :)

They all look the same. I have 5, and all different - 090, 196, 253, 308 and 104. But still didn't catch "PAM bug". Yes, nice watches, just one of the brands, that's it.

Simple, on the edge of primitivity, most have just 3 or even 2 hands... dial look empty. No, not "clean", but fucking EMPTY.

Much you have to learn young padiwan... :yoda:

Don't buy anything for at least a week. Just read and search topics on the matter before you think about buying anything. If you still feel compelled, buy a cheap low end one to start. It is addicting. You have been forewarned.

Oh, and BTW, if you're the whiny cunt Tissotman, fuck off! If not, then welcome, mkay?

I'd recommend the 005 to start- awesome rep, simple but has second hand and Logo dial.0013.jpg

I second Noel's suggestion! One of the nicest reps and super close to gen. Next would be a 111 Noob.

Could be AM instead of PM too. Better be sure to start with a model with a GMT hand just to be safe...

I'll weigh in.....they're too big and a 40mm is too hard to find. Not suitable for smaller wrists/arms

It's not Tissotman; his grammar and punctuation is not that of a 5 year old's. I received many a PM from Tissotman when he was trying to scam me, I'd know his child-like sentence structure anywhere! What a c**t!!!

He will be broke if he comes here again... as Greg is going to tell us all where he lives (although I already know this) so that we can go and take a lead pipe to his face.
