Pohoho 0 Posted February 21, 2012 Looks like I had created a practice movement piece for myself Broke the scew on my Getat Radiomir Unitas 6497 here: These screws steel had a high level of suiphur or what, just a quarter twist and off it came. Know it's near impossible task but should anyone have a way of getting this screw stem out, please share. Thank you. Else it looks like a major organ transplant for my watch when heart attack strikes.

offshore 0 Posted February 21, 2012 If the plate is s/s, and the screw was steel, you could try some alum. This was originally to get a stem out of a crown, or a broken tap out of a case, but it may work for a screw. http://www.replica-watches-guide.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2765&hl=alum&fromsearch=1 Offshore

Pohoho 0 Posted February 21, 2012 Thanks cls, I had thought that was a joke. I have to give the tool a miss for now. I can get a same watch new from Tat with that money but it's always useful to know of such tools around. There's a bit of slit on the stem top and with the gear wheel out of the way I may be able to get a screwdriver to sit on it and unscrew it out. Otherwise is down to the Alum therapy.... You guys are always a great help.

Pohoho 0 Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) reverse thread, that one. cls, did you mean that I should turn clockwise to unscrew this particular one, as opposed to the other two? Edited February 22, 2012 by Pohoho

10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted February 22, 2012 reverse thread, that one. cls, did you mean that I should turn clockwise to unscrew this particular one, as opposed to the other two? In most watches that screw is reverse thread - righty loosey, lefty tightey. It prevents it from unscrewing during winding. It's sometimes indicated by a screw with three lines in the top, which is meant to prevent a watchmaker from doing things like this.
Pohoho 0 Posted March 5, 2012 Happy to report I was able to get the screw thread off just by finger holding a section broken off a cutter blade (even my Bergeon screwdriver tip was too "fat" for the groove left on the stem) and using the knife edge. It perfectly hardy and sharp enough for the job. It turned out that the bigger challenge was finding the replacement screw
