Carl77 0 Posted March 16, 2012 Hi guys, I have what some people call a 'franken" Rolex DJ that has been assembled by a friend of mine some months ago (yes I know I didn't make any review...). The point is that I would like to change the dial by myself but I don't know if I can, and if I can, how is that possible? To give you a better idea of the watch, all the parts are gen except the movement, which is a 21j. So I'm pretty sure I can do this since the watch already has a gen dial on its movement, but how??? Thank you for your help.
sconehead 5 Posted March 16, 2012 ...using a gen dial on a 21j means he probably just snipped off the dial feet and used double sided tape...
Carl77 0 Posted March 16, 2012 Is there a "cleaner" way to set this up? Is t\it specially bad to use double sided tape? Can it move (sorry if the question is stupid)?
10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted March 16, 2012 you could buy a dial foot soldering machine. but barring that, the cleanest way is to glue the dial to the DW spacer ring.
Carl77 0 Posted March 16, 2012 Sorry for the noob question cls, but what precisely is this DW spacer ring?
10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted March 16, 2012 on top of the movement is a thin removable metal ring, sometimes plastic. It ensures clearance between the dial and datewheel.
Carl77 0 Posted March 16, 2012 Ok I will try to check this out when I will open the watch. Is there a special type of glue I should use or a good epoxy would be enough? And thank again for the advises.
10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted March 16, 2012 super glue applied with an oiler works well. epoxy would be fine in very small amounts, also apply with an oiler.
Dr Yan 8 Posted March 16, 2012 Dont forget to post some nice pictures
Carl77 0 Posted March 16, 2012 I will, as soon as I will be done with this. I guess if I glue the dial, I will not be able to take it off after right?
ScottDy 0 Posted March 17, 2012 Be careful with the superglue, it will take the finish right off the dial face if you get it on with your fingers or any other way.
Carl77 0 Posted March 17, 2012 Thank you for the advise. I've opened the watch today and the movement is a DG2813. Do you know if it should be harder to fit the dial on it that with another movement?
Carl77 0 Posted March 17, 2012 Also, is it possible to set a gen date wheel on this chinese movement?
10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted March 17, 2012 If you glue the DW spacer to the dial, you can still take it off. I just put a gen DW on a rep, but it was a lady DJ. I don't know how you would do it on a DG.
Carl77 0 Posted March 17, 2012 Well I guess I will just order a date wheel and see if it's possible... That would be nice because then the movement would be the only rep part of the watch.
