Breitling SO GMT by Watch International full review

Recommended Posts

RichardMiami

Today I received my white Breitling Superocean GMT from Watch International (Mary and Rochest). It is a bargain at $108. I am posting feedback about their service in their feedback section. This posting is for the watch itself.

It is NOT a dead replica of the gen, but very close.

Overall quality - the watch is solidly built. All functions work perfectly, with the red GMT hand independently adjustable from the hours hand. The crown pull for the GMT and Date functions takes a little subtlety, as it needs to be pulled out only a hair's breadth, but once you get used to it is fine.

Accuracy seems ok. I will know better over time (pun intended), but first impressions look good. It is a humble 21J movement (I believe).

The rubber strap is very soft and comfy - it does collect a bit of dust, and has a "vanilla" smell at first. I washed it in a little warm water, and it is better on both counts.

The bezel is uni-directional, and rotates and clicks nicely.

As for tells:

The biggest tell is that the dial is clearly marked 500m as correct, but the caseback is marked 1500 meters! This is not a big deal at all, but worth pointing out.

The second tell is that the rep lugs are too narrow. The gen has wider lugs as you can see in the gen pic below.

The face seems to be spot on. No issues that I can tell there.

OK - ON TO THE PICS:

Thank you for this review, 1600m on case-back is a very minor issue indeed

Is your watch also steel? as the light in the room makes it look red golden

Look's very nice to me, given the price and how close it is to the gen it's a no brainer...enjoy wearing it mate.

Gran

It is steel.... some of those pics picked up a hue from the teak patio furniture I was shooting on.

I agree - the caseback error is silly to even think about.

good review, thanks

great pictures too. Sometimes I wonder about those silly tells like 1500m in the caseback if they're made on purpose.

mixup with the Breitling Superocean 1500m me thinks...explains the lugs as well?

If you'll wear watch case back up - it will hold 1500m pressure, if crystal up - only 500m.

Different strokes for different folks

OK if you don't like it, but how you can tell quality from a photo escapes me.

Go start a thread of your best rep please -- I want to see.

BREITLING is the Rococo of watches...so obviously it is an extreme taste

Whats good about it that people will actually notice their watches

BTW I do not own any Breits myself but love the SOH on mesh (thinking about it I actually do own a SOH :giggle: )

You're welcome mate! Any pics of the movement under the hood? Just curious to see. I'd be mightily impressed to see engraved rotors etc for a watch at this price.

For $108 this is superb! It's probably not my favourite Breit of all time but it still looks good and will have great wrist-presence.

Congrats! :thumbsup2:

According to Breitling (and they should know) the diameter of the gen is 41mm.

According to me... and my lack of precision is legendary... the diameter appears to be 42mm... that is if I count the teeth on the outside of the bezel.

Close enough for me.
