AP ROO Safari on Donerix hornback...

Recommended Posts

Del

So my custom alligator hornback strap made by Donerix for my AP ROO Safari arrived today from Nicaragua - woo-hoo! :woo:

I wanted something more subtle than the one on my AP ROO Diver so chose chocolate brown with off-white stitching, which is exactly what was delivered. It was also designed to fit the rep AP deployant - which it also does very nicely! :)

As usual, changing straps on an AP ROO is a royal pain in the arse and is nowhere near as easy as Midasmook made it look in his tutorial! :P I even discovered than the metal hinges in my particular watch only fitted correctly on one specific side of the case (due to the retaining screw not pushing through fully, which I presume was because the lug holes and the holes in the hinges did not quite line up perfectly). So, Sod's Law prevailed and I had to take everything to bits again and re-fit the hinges on the other sides.

Anyway, I'm delighted with the strap and the combo! Very nice work by Donerix and all of the measurements and cut outs have been done to perfection for both the hinges and deployant.

And so to a couple of pics snapped tonight in the trusty light tent! ;)

Top is very nice, edges - no. For such a good watch - edges must be painted and smoothed. It's not a PAM.

OMG!!!!! PM sent.

I need it, I want it, I got to have more of it. I am in Tennessee you know.

How about a shot of it and the diver set to compare straps and dial comparison.

I am afraid that I have to agree with Luth on this call though. It begs for more formality and the finished edges would do it.

Nice Del. You guys need to see and feel the chunk of alligator hornback these straps are made from to see how difficult it is to make the edges smooth as you put it.

The edges aren't perfect but the straps are magnificent.

Luth, you're opinion doesn't count as you think the rep shit cardboard strap that comes with the watch is good.

Cheers guys! :)

I do understand about the edges, it's a good point. I'm not too bothered about it though - the unfinished edges are not as noticeable when wearing the watch as they are in the pics. ;)

OMG! If Luth is in that camp, then I retract my support of his criticism!

I have yet to handle a Donerix Hornback, but the couple of Hornback I own have sealed polished edges. Sorry Del, did not mean for this to detract from the thread. I love that strap MAN!

Midas, you contradict yourself, mate. You just admitted, that edges aren't perfect.

:P

And you're wrong - I don't like rep. straps at all, I'm just too picky to choose good ones. The only rep. strap I found good is on my Big Pilot.

Wow, this is super nice. Such a elegant combo, great work. And I like that stitching isn't 100 % white, so it kinda matches the dial color.

Now you're ready for Bugatti shopping mate :D

Thanks Crusader! :) Yes, the off-white stitching works well imo.

I'm off to try to find a Bugatti dealer in Glasgow...........
