Seiko94 0 Posted May 13, 2012 New guy taking in all the boards working his way up to a purchase. Wondering if their is such thing as a cheat sheet about movements. I've seen discussions implying different quality movements available in the same watch. I need help in understanding what exactly are the good/better/best movements (the actual names) so I can talk intelligently to a td. For me, I'll always be fine paying a bit more for internals that last. If it helps, The watches on my target list are patek aquanaut, pam111 or similar, a pro hunter military sub and a milgauss. is there a thread anywhere that covers the topic of movements? Any thoughts? A second slightly related question is a curiosity from a novice. Im assuming quartz/battery movements are less complicated than automatics. While in the gen world I would only want an automatic, in the rep world, for closed case backs, are you better off with quartz from a longevity standpoint? Again assuming quartz less complicated? Looks like most of your watches are non chronos (will leave 111 for now) which means your decision will be first on the sweep ie 6bps or 8bps (more gen like) and then how that can be achieved. Personally I'm a big fan of the Asian eta but others swear by Swiss, really is a matter of personal choice both will give you the 8bps. Finally, the 111, will be hand wind so different to the above. We have great dealers on here, Toro for example has a beginner version whilst Mary has a good value one in her section. Just to give you ideas. Not a fan of quartz so can't help you with that!
