I've decided that I'm going to do this build. Different dial and maybe the domed bezel instead of the fluted bezel, but essentially the same build. The prices I'm seeing are a little more expensive than what is listed here. I'm excited about it. Once I buy the first round of parts I'll start a new thread where the project can be detailed and periodically updated. Should be a lot of fun :)

Angie's new Oyster perpetual is pretty damn close. The one from JF.

For people considering this today...

Being as I just finished a Genken 16013 Datejust build, I'd love to see someone actually build this watch for that stated budget. I know this is a bit out of date, but just the case/caseback & dial can easily eat up most of that budget. If you're doing a two-tone Datejust like I did, $50 definitely won't get you an 18k bezel either. And unless you're going to put it together yourself (which I didn't), you're going to be paying for someone else's time to assemble and regulate the watch for you.

There's some good information here, but this thread should be overhauled and updated.

For a $650 Franken DJ, rafflesdials.com is the only way I can see getting it done. You can get 90% of the watch from there, then pop over to eBay for a gen dial and an 2824/2836 movement.
