greg_r 81 Posted December 28, 2009 UPDATE First brew is ready for testing, the ratios are, 1. 60% stoddart solution (white spirit) 2. 20% light naphtha (camping cooker fuel) 3. 10% oleic acid (extra virgin olive oil) 4. 5% iso propyl alcohol 5. 5% acetone Here in the UK I couldn't get pure oleic acid or naphtha so I found stuff that was similar/same but readily available. The ingredients I was unable to accquire may be less restricted in different countries though. I'll test it out tomorrow on my 917 movement to see how good/bad it is...watch this space... Well that's either cleaner fluid or napalm. Not sure which.... Just don't light any matches.... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

trailboss99 994 Posted December 29, 2009 Greg's right, just be carefull with that brew mate. I will keep an eye on your local paper tomorrow to see if you blow yur self up or not. Someone alert Jameo to listen out for the kaboom. It will be interesting to see how this goes actualy.I am not realy sure about olive oil being a subsitute for oleic acid but time will tell. Obe thing is for sertain, make sure you rinse the MVT in pure alcohol or such 'cause if none of the other stuff does damage long term the olive oil sure will. Actauly I'd give it a bath in water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid and then an alcohol bath to remove the water. All in the ultra of cause. Don't forget also that mix will melt the plastic parts of your cleaner! Don't leave it in there with the lid down as well. Col. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
sconehead 5 Posted December 29, 2009 Thanks for the tips Col. Thing was I searched everywhere to get oleic acid without success, apart from the US sellers on the bay. I read sunflower/olive oil is 85% oleic so I decided to give it a go. I plan to do the rinse in a 50:50 mix of acetone/iso propyl alcohol so any unwanted 'traces' should get removed...here's hoping... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
