sconehead 5 Posted November 15, 2009 I just downloaded the data sheet for L+R no.222 non-ammoniated ultrasonic cleaner used for cleaning watch movements...it ain't cheap. Here's the ingredients, 60-70% stoddart solution.....(white spirit) 15-20% solvent naphtha.....(panel wipe/cooker fuel) 5-10% oleic acid.....(murphys soap) 1-5% monoethanolamine.....(grout/tile cleaner) 1-5% 2 propoxyethanol.....(paint remover) 1-5% n-propanol.....(PCB cleaner/alcohol/isopropanol) So, looking at the composition, would it be fair to say 70% white spirit, 20% panel wipe and 10% murphys soap would have the desired effect at a fraction of the price? I was thinking of using this to clean my movements, then rinsing in isopropanol, sound like a plan? or What do you all think, discuss... Any substitute for Murphys/oleic acid here in the U.K. as it's only available in North America? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

sconehead 5 Posted December 28, 2009 UPDATE First brew is ready for testing, the ratios are, 1. 60% stoddart solution (white spirit) 2. 20% light naphtha (camping cooker fuel) 3. 10% oleic acid (extra virgin olive oil) 4. 5% iso propyl alcohol 5. 5% acetone Here in the UK I couldn't get pure oleic acid or naphtha so I found stuff that was similar/same but readily available. The ingredients I was unable to accquire may be less restricted in different countries though. I'll test it out tomorrow on my 917 movement to see how good/bad it is...watch this space...
