greg_r 83 Posted June 22, 2012 I have a shameful secret. I've been buying reps for 12 years or so, but until today I've never owned a Rolex Submariner. Oh, the shame.... Anyhow, a new member (hi, gribble!) was looking to buy a green dial/bezel Sub C and asked for some help. I found myself taking a closer look at the watch and thought 'what the hell..' so picked one up for myself, too. Therefore gribble is entirely to blame and I take no responsibility for breaking the habit of a lifetime, okay? This is the standard basic 21J version. It comes on the usual sub bracelet with glidelock clasp and feels very nicely made. Lume (blue) is pretty good for a cheapie and generally it feels better than one would expect at the price. In the pics you see around the boards, this watch often looks - like it's nickname - 'Hulk' green, but I'm pleased to say that it's darker than that - quite a subtle shade that, in some lights, looks almost black. How close it is to gen, I have no clue as I've never seen the green sub C in real life. I think I still prefer the regular LV, but what the hell. In the past, I've owned quite a few Rolex DJs / DDs and I never seem to get tired of those, but other than the DSSD and my 6263 I've never really gotten along with the sports models. I've had a couple of GMTIIcs which were both sold on within weeks, and my Explorer II didn't stay on my wrist long either - they were all nice watches, but they didn't really grab me. I expected the sub to be the same and was almost prepared to use it as a competition prize on here, but I find myself liking this watch more than the GMTs and for the life of me I can't work out why... No promises, but this might just be a keeper - I'll wear it for a bit and see how quick I get bored with it Here's a quick iPhone pic.

Crusader 0 Posted June 22, 2012 (edited) So, do you think you missed much by not owning a Sub in all that years? Great looking watch, the greed really looks subtile, not too effective Edited June 22, 2012 by Crusader
greg_r 83 Posted June 22, 2012 So, do you think you missed much by not owning a Sub in all that years? Um. Probably not. Even though I'm liking this one more than I thought I would I still think they're a bit too ubiquitous, TBH
Mystery Shopper 5,887 Posted June 22, 2012 Welcome to the dark side. Will there be PAMs on sale in the sales forum soon? It is a slippery slope!

Odyseus 1 Posted June 22, 2012 ...and the Rolex collection begins:) What's next Greg? how about a Pepsi GMT or a nice DSSD?
greg_r 83 Posted June 22, 2012 ...and the Rolex collection begins:) What's next Greg? how about a Pepsi GMT or a nice DSSD? Uh - it begins nothing. Might end it, however as this makes 5 Rollies in my collection. As I said in my post, I also have a DSSD, a DJ, a DD2 and a 6263 vintage 'tona. I've had a couple of GMTs and got rid of 'em quick - didn't like 'em much. I've owned rep Rollies continuously for the last 12 years - and, in fact, like most people it was Rolex that brought me into the hobby.

greg_r 83 Posted June 22, 2012 Well done Greg, i agree thought the original LV is better. Yeah, I'm thinking that's what I should have bought. This was a complete impulse buy. If I decide to get rid of it, though, I might try one of those instead. We'll see...

k3rm87 181 Posted June 22, 2012 I am exactly the same!! I have no idea why I love it, but the sub is just a fantastic versatile watch and looks great on any occasion. I always find myself going back to it. Probably the only watch I would buy gen.
