gB. 0 Posted June 26, 2012 Recently picked up one of the popular rep Assolutamente straps. Not bad for <$40, very soft and comfortable to wear. It's not as good as the gen like the hype would lead you to believe, but it's definitely worth the rep price. It's much lighter than the gen, but I like the tan color and it makes for a nice summer strap. The only annoying difference I find is the stitching on the rep strap is much thicker than the gen, and really much too thick in general, an aspect that I don't care much for. Here it is next to my gen radiomir sized strap I recently bought from the NY Panerai Boutique for comparison. The rep strap is the bottom one in all the pics, and is the lighter tan color. James. 4 Posted June 26, 2012 do you think the application of an oil would help with the colour? I too have one, though darker in colour then yours it's still not quite the right shade as the gen. Still a lovely strap though.
cremona 0 Posted June 26, 2012 I could totally see someone treating the rep strap to look almost identical to that. Not sure the process but semaj has the same idea as me.
P4GTR 0 Posted June 26, 2012 A little neatsfoot oil should do the trick. I like the thinner thread on the gen.
myaz 3 Posted June 26, 2012 FWIW, I prefer the thicker stitching myself. It has a rugged quality that compliments PAMS.
gB. 0 Posted June 26, 2012 I could totally see someone treating the rep strap to look almost identical to that. Not sure the process but semaj has the same idea as me. Yes, you could do that and possibly get close to the color. But honestly the quality of leather is not nearly the same, so not sure how well it would take to the treatment. But for <$40 you could get another one if it falls apart on you while trying. The special thing about the gen Assolutamente strap though IMO, besides the color, is the rubberized material lining. It's one of the most comfortable straps to wear. Rep doesn't come close to the same material, but it's good enough in it's own right for the cheap price. FWIW, I prefer the thicker stitching myself. It has a rugged quality that compliments PAMS. I can see that, maybe for a vintage style. But for an OEM style strap it seems a little sloppy. Just IMO of course. powderfreak 0 Posted June 26, 2012 Deja (or someone else?) has already tried to darken it, it works, but not very well - you might look for the thread. This is not why I clicked.

trailboss99 996 Posted June 26, 2012 I've got three or four of those things here brand new. They get dirty too quick. Now that is a good looking ass!
Pihlippe 1,294 Posted June 26, 2012 Yep like dark ASS most. BTW did I order a ass strap from Rochest and one XL ass strap from Toro. The one from Rochest was to small for my wrist thugh. :( The one from Toro i'm still waitingf for....
greg_r 83 Posted June 26, 2012 BTW - some rep Assos are darker - mine are much closer to the gen colour - albeit still not quite there... Nice straps though - was good enough to persuade me not to buy the gen strap for my 390.
kolchak 17 Posted June 26, 2012 the rep strap that came on my 386 actually darkened up beautifully. Just apply a thin layer of (forget what product I used), wait, repeat as necesarry. When your light rep strap gets dirty, "get down with brown."
