I've done it. 'Modded' my first watch(es)!...

Well, after a long time, I've done it.

My MQJ is now my version of a sterile milsub.

My original MQJ dial looks a bit overbaked, but it may well find itself in something soon.

Here it is with an old black leather strap. In need a set of hands for it, and also need to 'fatigue' it a bit more I reckon. Easily done with a handful of gravel...

(apologies for photo quality - taken with my mobile phone)

From what I see in the pics, I am impressed, nicely done! Care to share some of the methods you used?

Very nice impster.

I changed a few straps, but that's about it.

It would be nice to see it on a SS band.

Thanks - once I find our proper camera i'll upload better pics.

Baked the yellow milsub dial for 30 mins at 200degreesC. Hardly changed colour at all, so I 'crudely' stained it with some coffee!

The hands came out a nice colour though, and they nicely match the face.

I took the bezel off, and threw it in some bleach. Left it there for an hour - and no change! So i found some sandpaper and wire wool to age it.

I put it all back together, and put it on a leather bracelet. I'll probably get a black and grey nato strap for it.

Runs a little fast, but I can sort that this weekend.

Trick is not to be too gentle with these things. That stem needs quite a tug to get it out.

Will report back with better picks soon.

Oh yes, I took the cyclops off the crystal by using a lighter for about 5-10 seconds, and a razor blade. Came off quite easily.

Here's a better pic of it, along with another I did this afternoon - a sea-dweller homage that I've aged a bit.

Once I get the proper(!) hands for my milsub, I'll be happy.

I prefer the look of the milsub to the replica sea-dweller. As the sea-dweller has a better movement in it, I might just swap them over and use the misub as a beater.

I'm also thinking - 'red second hand' on the milsub????????

Thanks - not quite my first post though - I've been 'lurking' on this and a couple of other watch forums for a while. But I only 'modded' a watch for the first time yesterday when the postman brought me my cheap and cheerful watchmakers' toolkit!

What's the secret to getting the second hand back on easily???
