Rolex sub 1680 white (picts inside)

Recommended Posts

If I were to pick a birth year watch, it will definitely be a 1680 sub. It's classic, it has character, and it shows age and yet still not too old to be considered, well, "old".

We've all seen few recent 1680 builds from Bonesey and RolexAddict, etc, that makes us salivate over the 1680 sub (and Tudor snowflake 9411 too). Most of these beautiful builds use MBW 1680s as the base, but these MBWs are not easy to get and are pricey. And with frankens, these 1680 can get expensive very quickly.

Good thing for us rep collectors, there are few recent 1680 releases that looks promising. Lots of us are looking for mid-priced 1680 reps that are decent enough and doesn't look too "cheap" (if that makes sense).

I had a good experience with Trevor's GMT 1675, so it's just fitting that I try Trevor's 1680 as well. It arrived today, what a nice sub!

Enough with the chatter, here it is, the sub 1680 white!

Sub1680_01_resize.jpg

Pearl looks nice, not like some of the 1680 that has a flat white pearl.

Sub1680_02_resize.jpg

The plexi glass is clear and has bevelling.

Sub1680_03_resize.jpg

The CG looks fat, it needs some shaving.

Sub1680_04_resize.jpg

The bracelet's endlinks are stamped with 580, and the bracelet itself is stamped with 93150.

Sub1680_05_resize.jpg

The crown is too tall, probably needs shaving as well or has to be replaced.

Sub1680_06_resize.jpg

Orig POLEX Design 5513 in between lugs.

Sub1680_07_resize.jpg

Overall, this is a good 1680 sub, it has an Asian ETA 2836 movt, and priced below $200. I can't ask for more, thanks for reading.

Looks mighty fine,

Below $200 sounds not too bad either, wish you well in wearing it.

Looks so nice. I want one very badly. Unfortunately the priority is kind of low on my list.

Thanks Dal and Umpa for the compliments. :)

I've added a wrist shot of the 1680 sub.

Looking really good - but why, oh why the 'Polex'?!

That 'Orig Polex Design' is like a rite of passage- is this a true decendant of the original MBW 1680 sub? Date mag sure looks good- supercharged, and the pearl is decent- beats the old MBW flat white pearl. Certainly a new crown would help, cgs are a little short, but judicious trimming would help. The price is right, no doubt. Certainly a good watch for a few mods- oh, and the bracelet and end pieces are correct. Can beat it!

HEY! That's MY year too!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I should be looking for a Rolex Submariner 5513.

I think it's time to look around for one myself. Thanks for sharing. :)

let us know what you end up doing with the crown and CG. I have essentially the same watch with different dial/plexi and those are the only details that bother me (a little, not much) on it other than the lack of lumed indicies.

Great Sub!! This is one of the few reps of a rep that I know of. Like Alli said the Polex was a mbw trademark which has been copied on to this one which is not a mbw. I have the same watch and it's sweet as hell. Congrats !

Thanks guys!

@alligoat: Someone told me that Trevor's 1680/5513 is the same as Josh's 5513 case, and as solky mentioned, this seems to be a rep of a rep. :o

I've tried to shave the CG and the crown, I think I've gone overboard with the crown so I'm planning to find a replacement.

Here's some additional picts.

DSC_6837_resize.jpg

I've enlarged the lug holes using a round filer and ordered few 2mm springbars from our very own rwgshop.

This is the photo of the gen that pushed me to try the 1680 (gen 1680 from watchblog.dk)

Rolexsub1680genwhite.jpg

...and this is my poor attempt to recreate the picture, it's very obvious that I have to replace the dial with an ingod44 or yuki dial.

I think this version is different from those that has "Swiss ETA 2846" movements, the overall case construction seems different.

This is how it looks like, taken while I was shaving the CG. The bezel has 4 parts, the ring that you can see in the picture (looks like holding the plexi), a flat bezel ring, the bezel and the insert.
