davylloyd 0 Posted August 1, 2012 ...so it's out with the metal polish and a cocktail stick, and some gentle rubbing. I had a practise run on an old Breitling dial beforehand, and this worked much better as that dial was a gloss finish. This text has embedded into the matte dial, and the paint has become burnished after my attentions. I did sort of expect this.....
davylloyd 0 Posted August 1, 2012 ...so I had some matte-black acrylic ready to roll. I'll see how it looks when it dries properly, I've still got a lot to do to the dial yet.
davylloyd 0 Posted August 1, 2012 If you made it this far, congratulations on your staying power. Next time might be a bit less boring when I get more into the modding. So far so good on my first go at this sort of thing.
ferret_of_war 0 Posted August 1, 2012 are you going to water resist the watch?, if so take some underwater pics.

davylloyd 0 Posted August 1, 2012 I don't think so. I think I'll have invested too much time and heartache, if the watch ever turns out, to risk it in water - tested or not. Sooner wreck a G-Shock. :help3:

onionbag 1 Posted August 1, 2012 This is good stuff davy, I'm an engineer, but I just know that when I start to dismantle my reps it'll all go to hell in a handcart.
davylloyd 0 Posted August 1, 2012 This is good stuff davy, I'm an engineer, but I just know that when I start to dismantle my reps it'll all go to hell in a handcart. I'm an X-Ray engineer , so this could all end up a complete balls-up. Before I started into it, I took the view that if I made a dogs dinner out of them, and made a loss of £150 or so, then it would be £150 worth of experience (and as an engineer, you know that's priceless) If I end up with something that myself and my son can wear without feeling a twat, then it's a bonus. machiavegli 6 Posted August 1, 2012 In all humility, I ordered the RWG Tool Kit http://shop.homage-watches-guide.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=162 from Col 6 months ago, but I've been chicken to dissect the old watches I intend to practice on. This kind of detailed step by step DYI is helping me get my courage up. Thanks a million. -Mach

If you buy something and start work on it straight off, all you stand to lose is a little hard-earned. (...and your mind!)

Kwt 11 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) This is a really great thread, somewhat satisfying to see the Rep being taken apart. I wonder why they bother stamping Rolex everywhere on parts that aren't really visible even if the markings are wrong. Either way this must be time consuming on your part to do and to take pictures so thanks and well done!! Edited August 1, 2012 by Kwt
davylloyd 0 Posted August 2, 2012 Taking the pictures and typing up the explanations, as you know, takes as long, or longer, than doing the actual work, but I'm enjoying it. First time I've done anything like this, so it's all suck-it and see!
