Making pearls

Recommended Posts

DeLaForce

Just thought I put a few pics and a brief description of the process and the simple cost effective products used for D.I.Y pearl making, I'm sure there are many ways, but this works best for me :)

This is what you will need

- Lume

- 2 Part Epoxy

- youre choice of waterbased paint (depending on what look you are going for)

- toothpick

- plastic watch bag

As you will see in the final picture of the bottom egi i mixed the products on tin foil which gave it a tin/SS look.

Dab out a couple of blobs of colour on to the plastic

Mix, add, until desired colour

Dab out equal amounts of the two part epoxy, add Lume and mix

Next apply some colour .... But be aware a lot of paint goes along way! Add very small amounts until you get the colour you want

Scoop up the mixture onto a toothpick and let the mixture fall into a tear shape

When I saw the name of the thread I though

http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/life/zoology/marine-life/question630.htm

But after reading it i've gotta say, much more watch related and interesting then I anticipated.

I don't know how you do it, but your mod skills are quite refined. I tried to "mod" a watch once. Now it doesn't work :(

Thanks again for that! Much appreciated - the only thing I am hesitant about is doing the new pearl in the remaining hole where the pearl mount/receptacle used to be - I keep thinking it will be to small.

This is what I used to have:

This is what I have now:

Enough still there to waork with? I have been trying to find a replacement mount piece for the pearl like I had before it was lost - but no luck yet..

Thoughts?

It looks like as far as I can tell that that tube is slightly more narrow, you can still get a decent pearl but It wont be as wide, problem is if you start trying to take some SS away from the inside to make the 'bowl bigger, it's risky, if it doesn't work , kinda buggered. Can dsn get you one? Or maybe buy a new bezel? Might get expensive! You can always try it out ....if you don't like it just cut it out :)
