Ageing my Alpha Sub *plus 'a diver is born'* :)

One of these arrived this morning...

As you can see it was very shiny and new, so not really my thing! After a good rub with my trusty sanding sponge it now looks like this...

Nicely dulled. I rubbed the pearl smooth too, which looks really nice now. The insert also looks much duller and has a nice smooth wear mark around the edge (not visible in pics) I might not have to bleach it. Next job is a very light coffee staining for the face and hands. I also just ordered an AK Homme to practice a real relic job on before I pick up a nice Rolly. It only cost £13 posted :D

Very nice, I wouldn't go exactly with sunburst dial for a vintage project, maybe Pepsi bezel or plain black one, but this one is nice too, make sure you'll post some pics when done :)

Thanks. Totally agree, I dont want it to look like a creature from the deep, just subtly aged. The coffee will just take the shine off the face and give everything a very slight yellow tint. I hope!

Nice, I really like what you did with the pearl, original looks really weird, too bulky and round.

This will be great learning point for you, next up Rolex GMT 1675?

Dip it in toilet bowl for a month, it will have nice old patina and vintage smell.

I got that same kit from ebay, the pin on the bracelet pin pusher broke on me, and two of the screwdrivers weren't tight in the handle so when you try to use them, the screw stays still and the handle is the only thing that turns

I hope yours is better.

Pretty much. Although, in my defense, I'm stupid. I think that's a defense anyways....

I tried using it to size a J12 for my girlfriend and the pin was too large to fit inside the hole on the bracelet  I only figured it out after I bent it. Dummy.

don't try it. My kit had same issues with screw driver. The pin pusher thingy(blue on top right) broke in half too. Oh well.

Everything seems fairly solid, I only really bought it for opening cases and adjusting bracelets so all good.

My AK Homme Sub arrived, as suspected, it is total junk :D

I gave it a sanding, it is NOT stainless steel as advertised!

Bashed it up some more. I actually like the grungy old diver look. Might get some crud on the dial and throw a plexi on this.
