wat44 0 Posted January 3, 2010 I was at the first day of the Sydney Test today - Australia Vs Pakistan. [wearing the blue surf] some guy behind me is sporting a gen PO so I strike up a conversation and ask him if its the quartz or auto version. "no, its the self winding one, he says" hmmm, I wonder how much people know about their watches? he was a nice guya nd asked i=me if I was a collector. I said, no - just interested in them. Turned out he also owned a Panerai [pronounced "pan-yeer-ee" - i thought it was pan-err-i] and I think it was a regatta from his description
wat44 0 Posted January 5, 2010 day3 (its looking pretty grim for the aussies) a mate of mine comes sporting a gen dateless sub he didnt know what I meant when I said "can I have a look at your sub?" he didnt even know submariner - to him it was a rolex - full stop I asked why he bought the dateless and he said "I dont like the bubble" I was amazed how light it was (but maybe it was because I took off my blue surf to try his on) - but it did SEEM lighter than my fake subs... greg_r 83 Posted January 5, 2010 I'll admit that I can't abide cricket, but it sounds like you're spotting some interesting watches. And yes, he's mispronouncing Panerai

AllergyDoc 40 Posted January 5, 2010 We used to live in New Zealand, where they play lots of cricket. My band teacher in junior high had a cricket bat with holes drilled through. Guess what he would use it for? That was back in the day when teachers could paddle kids. Anyhoo... Cricket is a goofy-looking game.

greg_r 83 Posted January 5, 2010 jury is still out.... Pan - er - ayy OR Pan - er - eye? Actually something in between - the Panerai specialist I was talking to in an AD about a month ago wasn't pronouncing it Pan-er-ray, but it wasn't quite 'eye' either. The difficulty is in spelling it phonetically.
