Old beat up Rolex

Recommended Posts

Focal

Hey,

I got this watch in my possesion recently and i want to know what i have to do to make it look good. I'm not sure if i want to restore it or keep the vintage look. First i really need a new strap since the fake alligator strap looks like shit. I would really like some input, i dont know much about rolexes but it has emotional vallue so i want to take good care of it. Thanks

service it, waterproof, light polish on case and crystal and change the strap to something quality.

get it serviced and buy a nice hirsch strap for it, the most comfortable aftermarket strap imho.

Thanks for the advice, i would love to have 10.10 working on my watch but i would not feel comfortabele sending a gen solid gold Rolex to a foreign country. Especialy since it has a lot of emotional value. I must say i have no clue wath this watch is worth because its from the sixties and really old, but i could not stand losing it. So i think i must find someone in the Netherlands who is able to fix this. Thanks for the strap info, i will look into hirsch straps. Also any info on this watch is more than welcome.

Would this piece need a 19 or 20 mm strap?

Agreed with everyone here.. Send to 10:10. ANY AD will muck it up and bring you to tears, not only in price but sentimental value.

My $5.00

To be honest, I don't know the best overseas shipping practices. Any seniors that can lend a hand??? HWG, greg_r, Luthier, Chris??

PM one of the admin folks here, they have access to answers like this.

DHL and Fed Ex both have their own customs clearance so items don't get lost and arrive quickly.

Should be 20mm.

Where are you located? There may be some vintage specialists in your area. Rolex really isn't that bad a choice, they can be sensitive, but they like to make things factory new. They might not take a Datejust depending on it's age though .

I ship $5,000 - $10,000 guitars all over the World, never lost one.

Just insure it.
