LightGeek 25 Posted October 16, 2012 Those are my chips you pissed on sir. The idea is to somewhat consolidate it into one funky thread. It's how I like to do things... Get a bunch of watches, pick or mix-match the best, get a bunch of wom... Well that's generally how I work anyway. At the moment, the sub-200 Toro looks like the BK, down to the crappy clasp print. Will photo later. ________________ Sent from my mobile device. Please excuse the brevity of this message.
LightGeek 25 Posted October 16, 2012 $148 $218 $460 dollar comparo for my own amusement really versus the more common -- is the $300 DSSD from X better than the $301 from Y. ________________ Sent from my mobile device. g.man 0 Posted October 16, 2012 The 21j Noob tends to be a bit rougher in the old QC dept but is a decent starter watch. The 42PO DSSD is poor and not as good a rep as the Noob with Asian ETA clone. The BK DSSD is just a well QC'd Noob with a Swiss ETA. It's arguably overpriced as it's the exact same Noob watch that can be got from any trusted dealer for considerably less. just saved you about $900 g.man
LightGeek 25 Posted October 16, 2012 While that's fine and well, I think my contention point now is the clasp print/engraving. The pearl can be spot in but if the clasp print looks like a 2 year old's scribbling, it's all for nothing. ________________ Sent from my mobile device. Please excuse the brevity of this message. 10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted October 16, 2012 FWIW, the WI dial markers look a lot better to me. The gen HE valve is slightly recessed.
g.man 0 Posted October 16, 2012 Things like clasp prints tend to vary from batch to batch on the same models, Just because someone gets a stinker one month tends to have little bearing on what another customer may receive the following month. it's not an exact science g.man

We have to say the case, dial, bezel are generally good these days. ________________ Sent from my mobile device. Please excuse the brevity of this message. g.man 0 Posted October 16, 2012 Fair enough mate. Can't help but think you're somewhat tilting at windmills, but good luck with your project anyway. best g.man
LightGeek 25 Posted October 16, 2012 Fair enough mate. Can't help but think you're somewhat tilting at windmills, but good luck with your project anyway. best g.man Haha. Yep. Wow! That's a nice watch. Can I see it? Ouch did they use a crayon to draw that Rolex logo? I was really hoping the BK version came with engraved clasp like "his" Blue Sub does. Oh well. I might just ask the TDs to source a good band. ________________ Sent from my mobile device. Please excuse the brevity of this message.

10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted October 17, 2012 Do all three watches have the "quick date" feature? now we're getting somewhere.
LightGeek 25 Posted October 17, 2012 Yes they do, just tested. The movement is listed in the first post if you're interested in that as well. ________________ Sent from my mobile device. Please excuse the brevity of this message.
Luthier 1 Posted October 17, 2012 You forgot to add, that this DSSD is not the best, that WI offer, and also - triangle top is straight, as per genuine, on WI DSSD, and rounded on BK DSSD, and this is the main tell.
LightGeek 25 Posted October 17, 2012 This is a purely price comparison. BK generally hyped as great. WI version I bought generally hyped as "great value" Toro was just cheap ________________ Sent from my mobile device. Please excuse the brevity of this message. LightGeek 25 Posted October 17, 2012 $460 vs $128. Or is is $128 vs $460? Is the BK date wheel and different movement worth it? Every other aspect of the watch is very similar other than the pearl position. I'll do better shots later when I'm not dodging the wife. What? Another one of those!? ________________ Sent from my mobile device. Please excuse the brevity of this message.

Trolex 0 Posted October 17, 2012 Ok I've got ten minutes. Let's see what we can do... ________________ Sent from my mobile device. Please excuse the brevity of this message. And there lies the reality of the situation. Unless you look closely in a close-up image or get your hands on the watch, who the hell knows which one is which. Shitty pearls, shitty lume, poor OGEV/RLS engraving are the quickest giveaway. Luth is right about the triangle, although it's not as readily apparent as he might make you believe (unless the pearl looks like the one in his picture OR is off-centered). Cheers for doing this. Maybe try to follow a more scientific format with this thread, just a thought. Oh, and I'll take the one on the left. The one on the right looks like shit IMO. my guess is BK is left, Toro is middle, WI is right.
turbotow 0 Posted October 17, 2012 BK modifies the Noob DSSD? WI does quailty control and sells the 42PO DSSD? Why doesnt WI sell the Noob and if the 42PO is a better rep, why doesnt BK modify that one? I contacted WI and they said the "best version" is out of stock. The 42PO is offered at $298 with the ETA movement $245 with the asian movement. Is there a list of all the manufactures and how do you decipher who is who? So confusing.... LightGeek 25 Posted October 17, 2012 It's listed in my first post exactly how things are posted and who is who. The new pics are going to overwrite the old. If you're confused, reread that first post
LightGeek 25 Posted October 17, 2012 (edited) All fresh straight from camera pics uploaded. I removed ALL my comments so you can draw your own conclusions. Sorry to those that still use dialup! When you're browsing, keep in mind the point of this thread. It's not about searching for the ULTIMATE rep, it's to see how many deficiencies (and which ones) you can tolerate -- in direct relation to how much money leaves your wallet. All of these are selected as a "noob" browsing the forum as "suggestions" by others that they are great value at their price points.
