38mm BR01-92 White Dial from TimeShops

Recommended Posts

Finally some time to write a quick review of my recent acquisition. No a rep vs gen review but my impressions and likes / dislike about it.

Bought an Omega Railmaster as well so shipping comes up to $20 which is what they are charging for EMS so opted for that, got them within 5 days.

Likes:

1) at 38mm, this is more manageable for my 6.5" wrist. And it is not too thick and heavy.

Even my wife likes it!

2. I was shocked initially as I can't wind the watch, only to discover that it has a screw down crown. (that was not the case for my ex-Parnis BR homage).

+1 to that for water tightness!

3. The facetted hour hand added an interesting detail. Also, I had thought black hand will give the maximum readability and contrast but I'm swayed towards silver now.

4. I also like how the edge catches light in certain angles on the table. It's subtle but when it catches your attention and you have a feeling of finding up a treasure.

5. Smooth leather watch is decent and feels like a good quality wallet.

6. Sapphire Crystal

7. Decent cool blue lume on hands.

No lume on indices or numbers so this piece is my next luming candidate

What could have been better:

1) The lugs ends are rounded, probably due to inexperienced machining / polishing.

2. straps are trimmed 1mm too short so part of the bar showed

3. The lug screws looked untidy, I can't decide are they round or hexagon. Crown needs a bit of tightening also but it'a an easy fix for me.

Overall, I'm happy with this watch

Nice choice :) Are you sure it's not 46mm like the Gen, though?

I've always like the 'dressy' white dial 01-92s, they are not that common in the Gen either, I believe.

Screwdown crown is accurate to Gen, as is the crap lume, I think

Which movement did you go for?

You can get some amazing straps from Gunny for the B&Rs, or Combat Straps have improved a lot since the start, I think, so check them out :)

Did you get the strap bar tool with it? If not, I would ask if you can get one as getting replacement hex screws can be a bitch...

Nice. 38mm is tiny but I really like the design. Wear it well.

@ Member X, affirmative 38mm, remember the big 46mm Parnis I had for a while? I need a rep Arnie wrist to pull a 46mm off. Thanks for the heads up on the straps, some are simply stunning.

Yes 38mm does feel a tad undersized, there a 42mm version with white hollow squares (or maybe lume dots) at the end of the markers but the hands a funny different kind.

Oh yes, missed that out. It was listed as Asian 4813 28800bph.

$108, plus $10 for shipping with registered airmail.

That looks awesome for $118 :)

I'm still surprised by the 38mm but it suit you so that's what counts! :)

Is a 4813 movement harder to start up?

i've got to shake / swirl this watch very much to get it started and when it starts, it goes for like 5 secs and stops again!

Winding it up and it will work fine.

Maybe issues with the rotor? Or missing rotor?

Strange, most of my 4813s start up if I even poke the watch gently with a fingertip! lol

Might just be a sticky rotor mechanism, as suggested, but if it handwinds ok then I would probably just keep doing that - it is too cheap a watch to spend the same again on getting it serviced! (unless you absolutely love it, of course :))

Mark asked me to wind it up 20 times. Sounds like i bought a semi-auto :-(

Anyway, do i expect the TD to pick up the return shipping should i decide to send it back? There seems to be varying practices among them.
