I recently saw one of these for sale on TRF, am quite tempted:

What is distinctive with the Omega Speedmaster "Alaska Project" is the bundled accessory kit. A red-anodised aluminium outer case which can be mounted on the bezel of the watch is provided with the watch. The case allows full use of the chronograph function with the ingenious system of "mushroom" pushers. With the red casing on the watch is temperature resistant between -148° C and +260°C. Note, this does not mean it is fireproof!

Omega explains that "the stunning, red-anodised aluminum" color of the casing "is the result of anodic oxidation treatment (eloxage), was not chosen for aesthetic reasons - no other colour offered the same level of protection from temperature shock."

White Velcro straps with brushed red-anodized aluminum buckles is included for use as a strap when the red casing is mounted on the watch.

I like it, only 1,970 made. 42mm though is my only concern.

I like it too - a lot. But it looks pretty slim too, so is probably going to wear a little small. Personally I wouldn't care about that - I have one or two small watches anyhow, but it depends on what you're comfortable with.

If it was me and i wasn't broke :P , I'd go for it!

Before you do Jeff, do a search on RG. I remember there was a member there posting about the quality on his. He was highly disappointed ...... Can't seem to remember his name now but it shouldn't be too hard to find. I love the look of the Alaska project as well tho...

That is a concern, wish I could try it on first.

I say go for it, Jeff. I have had my eye on that since before I got my Speedy Panda. It is a very nice piece!

Price sounds right. This would be an investment piece, I'd say it would appreciate over time.

Here is as close as I can come so that you can compare... this is my Speedy Panda @ 41mm on my 7.5" wrist... maybe it will help

Jeff

If the size is a concern...

I think the white dial somehow makes it look 'bigger'.

... to compliment Richard's post...... here is comparison with PO (45mm)

(I have similar size wrist ... about 7.5")

Hope this helps...

Happy shopping! (thats the fun part)

Sweet Jeff. Go for it. Really unique. 42 is really a great size for that watch, will still wear bigger than a 40.
