First Mod: Sea Dweller Pearl

Recommended Posts

Since the bracelet broke, I have been tinkering with my 21j SD. I figured it was as good a place as any to start messing around. The two biggest things that bothered me about this watch (besides the shitty bracelet) were the pearl and misaligned DWO. The pearl was really a bugger because not only was it filled incorrectly, but it was also misaligned.

My SD was sitting on my desk for weeks, so lonely. I started looking up pearls and inserts on eBay and ordered a pearl for $19. Then got this scalpel tool that came in my $19 watch kit, wedged it between the insert and metal boarder of the pearl and popped it off. Unfortunately it kind of slipped and took a bit of the black paint off by the triangle but no biggie.

As I was waiting for the part to arrive I noticed that it was the punched hole in the insert that caused the misalignment of the pearl. So I removed the insert and ordered a new one from the same seller. Today I was sitting at my desk with replacement pearl in hand and decided to set it in the old insert to see how it looked. To my surprise it looked great. So I filled the scratched paint with a bit of sharpie and went to the garage. With the pearl in the insert, I applied some liquid nails to the back of the insert and rubbed it over the back of the pearl and to the other side of the insert. I'm not sure how strong it is but I know it wont simply pop out.

Here are my results:
