Luthier 1 Posted November 20, 2012 Drop this idea. You'll spend enormous amount of your time and money, and nobody, ever, will notice the difference. But if you are so crazy about vandalizing your watches - just dunk one into toilet bowl for a month, will look good.

dingle 57 Posted November 20, 2012 Anyone want to buy a lung or a liver? or a girlfriend? Funds needed desperately. honestly, To start out, I would take a look at river's vintage pieces just to make sure the size and feel is what you really want. The price cannot be beat. http://www.rwg.bz/bo...p?showforum=

Join Homageforum. You will see some familiar faces there as well http://www.homageforum.com/ did you build them yourself or did you send them out? who did you use? I built one and I had one built. Very hard to do and very costly. Different parts come from different sources and then you have to make it all fit. See my post above about the River's route. J.Eric 693 Posted November 20, 2012 I have been on the 'build your own quest' for a couple months since my 6497 in my 111 died. It can get pricey very quickly but if you shop around, good deals are to be had. Here are a few pics of my projects.... 111J 2533 #1 2533 #2 They are all running Russian Molnija 3601 Movements from pocket watches. I paid about $40 for each movement, $30 for two 2533 dials and about $6 each for the stems. All from Ebay. The feeling you get from wearing something you built is priceless!! Have fun on your quest!! J.Eric 693 Posted November 20, 2012 Thanks!! I did the work myself. When I bought the dials, they had 'some' defects and the worst lume i have ever seen. the first one was spayed 'oil rubbed bronze' and the second is gloss black. I aged the indexes and the hands on the second one with soy sauce of all things.
bennykwa 15 Posted November 20, 2012 Good tip with the soy sauce. I just bought "realistic rust" from Dr. Ben's on the bay-it's made for model trains, but i thought it would do great on the watch face. Learning by doing. ) earl grey tea anyone? Did you bake it? or just brush it on?

DeLaForce 2 Posted November 20, 2012 Vague , I can't agree. I learnt everything from the tutorials here and HF , there quite descriptive and informative. If you take the time there's a lot of great info, and you should be able to create exactly what you want... Like everything patience is key. Good luck
