PO42mm with moddding

Recommended Posts

Hi, all PO lover.

I bought this PO 42mm at M2M sales. It's PO with DG4813. For details, refer to this post(http://www.rwg.bz/bo...showtopic=35892)

po03.jpg

As a whole I like this watch. However, three point have begun to annoys me after I had looked at gen PO. Lume color, date wheel font and distance between hands and dial are so different.

Here is a pic of gen PO(At any time, google is our friend). You can immediately understand what I mean.

PA170282.jpg

Compared to gen,Lume is too green and Hands do not have a good distance from Dial. As I can see, the difference is like this.

HANDS.jpg

This structure make this PO looks much poor. It lacks 3D effect. Hour and Minute wheel on DG4813 is too low to ETA.

To make my PO more looks like a gen one, I changed the lume, movement to ETA2824 which took from old RADO watch, then changed Hour and Minute Wheel that have more height. This is the result.

PO02.jpg

There are several Hour Wheel which height is differ. My choice is 2mm. Hands are not gen's but sold at after market.

PO05.jpg

And lume.

PO04.jpg

Without relume, change a movement is not so difficult. Why don't you try this mod?

Thank you for reading.

Nice mod!

Where did you take the aftermarket hands? I was broaching my dg4813 hands to fit my 2824, but I would prefer new ones...

How did you remove old lume on marker?

3D effect very nice :)

Recent model of PO have blue lume but this model's lume is green.

I know this is flaw, but I love this color.

@OGM

You can buy it at eBay. Try to search with "Planet Ocean Hands" at there.

I soused maker in Alcohol during a day. Confirm that lume becomes soft, then pick lume with something acuate.

There's 2 different DG-4813, one is with low cannon pinion, another one with tall cannon pinion.

That's interesting. I have to buy it.

Do you know who sells PO with that movement?

Sorry, I should ask Mary first. :D

Hm... Thx for great writeup, but something I don't get quite well

How did you change just an hour pinion???

Beacouse if I understand this correctly, higher hour pinion, meant that you won't be able to put minute hand on it's respective one...?

O.k. disregard - I missed that you changed hour pinion too... Seconds stem then?

@Haltec

As you pointed out, I change Minute and Hour wheel. I didn't change Fourth wheel for it had enough height.

Whether you need to change wheels depend on the movement you.

But it's easy to get spare ETA parts. It makes mod easy and fun.

Nice mods.

The only thing that bugs me is the blue-tinted crystal glare. Hate it on mine!

have you thought about swapping the crystal out?

Looks great! Didn't knew the distance of hand to dial could make such a difference! Wear in good health mate.

Do you try that?

I'm wondering to buy it or not. It cost half dollar of this watch.

If I make a step toward such a modding, I can't resist to go franken.

So, I got this PO from Mary to verify if another PO with DG4813 have tall pinion.

See from aside.

P1100924_zpse8cba29a.jpg

And more one pic.

P1100920_zps61031093.jpg

Despite its beauty, both hour and minute wheels are very low.

Please understand that I do not mean this watch is not good, but It's not my favour.

As Lutheir pointed things out, there seems some DG4813 variant.

If someone know from whom I can buy PO with tall pinion, please let me know that.

I bought Sunnydale@RWI's crystal and installed it to my PO. It's awesome.

My journey to make up more preferred PO have ended thanks to his crystal.

He said he still have some crystals to sell. Do not miss out on buying it.

In the daylight. It seems no crystal on my watch.

have you used a different movement holder or did the one from 4813 work out for you?
