Ultimate Planet Ocean 42mm vs 45mm. What're the differences?

Recommended Posts

Hi Seniors,

I'm interested in getting the UPO after reading many of your excellent write-ups with beautiful shots!: )

I understand both the 42mm and 45mm are very close to the Gen. But besides the size, what are the differences between these 2? Which one has the better fit and finish?

Thanks for your time : ) and Happy holidays!

What's your wrist size is the question to your answer. :-)

Both have flaws but per tanweekiat's post - all depends on your wrist size.

i believe the 42mm PO rep has (the best version, i don't know if available, how much, what dealer) been the best Planet Ocean rep available. The main difference between the size (the 45.5 PO is bigger, but the 42 PO is a bit chunkier) is the bezel edge. The 45.5 PO has (as per gen) a scalloped edge and the 42mm PO has (as per gen) a coin edge.

I just posted an orange 42mm PO for sale in M2M. I thought I would like the smaller version, but I've gotten so used to the large diver watches that the 42mm doesn't feel right to me. Beautiful watches.

Thanks for pointing out the difference on the bezel : )

The 42mm version is plagued with breaking crown stem problems.

Replacing the crown stem could it solve this problem?

It's not the stem that goes on the PO42, it's the crown tube thread.

How much does it cost to replace a crown stem? I just ordered a v5 42mm with a A4813 movement. Hopefully, I won't have an issue. (crosses fingers)

You're looking at £25 for the parts and about another £40 to fit them, plus postage to and from the watchsmith, plus a lot of patience as you watch the months go by with no news :)

i wear big watches and just cant pull off a 45 on rubber, it protrudes too much from the lugs and looks ridiculous. a 42 is no problem, my wrists are 7" (i like to have symmetry.......!)
