Breitling Deep Freeze Experiment

Recommended Posts

scorpion

Ok so my new Breitling had a few digits out on its lower inverse LCD display and its been bugging me. I had a good root around inside and its a bit complex with multi layers and 2 batteries but I eventually got to the rubber contacts and cleared them with no difference.

A few members suggest I try sticking it in the freezer as its a trick that can revive LCD displays so its now in and freezing.

Before shot...........

Getting colder, love my laser guided multimeter / thermometer, new it would be useful one day......

Ok so that's it so far, I am going to remove it in 2 hours and see what happens....stay tuned I will update later, wish me luck

Don't really see how that will work.

Sounds like magic to me.

Its either a dry joint on the PCB or the segment on the LCD is goosed.

If it was me I would find a soldering iron and reflow the solder.

Theres probably a ribbon cable coming out the LCD then this attaches the PCB. That's where to start .

Try pressing there and see if the segments come on. If they do then a re solder should fix it.

But it is still Christmas, and miracles do happen.

A. The old freezer trick has been known to work on dodgy radio codes -_-

What dont you get Jeff????

What dont you get Jeff????

What dont you get Jeff????

What dont you get Jeff????

What dont you get Jeff????

Its a simple experiment fraught with the danger that it may totally bugger up the LCDs or worse screw up the analogue as well. Glass might even crack, watch might explode and destroy my freezer, wife then will be a little pissed offf with me.............stuff this I am getting it out right now!!!!

I will report later on progress. Just once not 5 times!

Well I hope u did take the battery out. All that condensation when u take it out won't be good on the circuitry.

If u did take the battery out its best to leave to dry out before inserting the battery.

There would of been moisture in the bag which thatch was in.

Therefore when u take it out you'll get condensation due to the change in temperature. Like when u walk into a pub and your glasses steam up. Glasses going from cold to hot quickly.

You can vacuum seals? Don't the fish scales......well, kinda smell after a while?

Must make for a lot of bag changes.........or have you a Dyson?

Realistically, its probably not going to make any difference.

I've dropped phones down the loo and they were fine.

Still think its a dry joint though.
