[TUTORIAL] ULTIMATE Modding of Omega Ploprof V2 to look like GEN

Hey all,

so this is second tutorial, for all you want to have gen like looking LUME on your Ploprof V2. The watch is awesome for it self already, but we can make it to look more GEN like.

For this tutorial we will use Omega Ploprof V2 watch and we will do following

- FULL RELUME with BG-W9 color superluminova

- Replace movement for GEN ETA (replacing pinions)

- Waterproofing with pressure test to 4 BARs

- Regulate movement within COSC limits

- Aligning datewheel to fit the dial window

So lets see how we got the watch and we can say the errors asap

DSC_3553.jpg

DSC_3554.jpg

So you can see the bezel insert markers have some HOLLOW affect to them what is not like gen. The gen has got nice solid fill to the markers.

PloprofOEMBlk15.jpg

So we want this effect, for this we need to completely disassemble the watch, to access the bezel insert. Customer also requested if I can replace the movement he provided that is genuine ETA, so no problem when I am already going to align datewheel and as well relume the watch, so it is only movement swap.

DSC_3555.jpg

DSC_3766.jpg

What is good on PLOPROFs reps that the dial is not mounted to the movement but to the movement ring that is holding also movement, so you can swap movements with no problem. We will remove the dial from movement and flip the dial from other side, and remove the glue that holds the indexes and push them out with sharp pin. The hands will be fit to tooth pics so we can remove the lume from other side with acetone filled ear cotton buds, so we will not damage the top paint of hands.

DSC_3767.jpg

DSC_3768.jpg

DSC_3769.jpg

Then put all the indexes to acetone bath to remove the stock lume completely. This will take around 2-24 hours, you can accelerate the process with ultrasonic cleaning bath.

DSC_3771.jpg

Store the dial and movement to the dust protector (or simply dust cover :) ).

DSC_3770.jpg

Now continue disassembling the case.

DSC_3552.jpg

Push the crystal out with crystal push tool.

DSC_3557.jpg

Remove all orings and crystal gasket from case

DSC_3559.jpg

DSC_3560.jpg

Now why we did this. Well we go to the hardest part of this relume. TO get the bezel insert off. This is REALLY DIFFICULT as you can damage the bezel insert beyond repair, scratch the paint and other horrible stuff. So do this only AT YOUR OWN RISK !!! For this job you need heat gun and leather gloves and some good holding point where you can heat the case. Also watch out not to get burned !!! As the case need to be heated up to 140+°C to remove the glue so you can easily get the bezel insert out. Watch out not to twist the bezel insert !!!! AS the uneven lume from factory and not well CNCed indexes can scratch the precious bezel insert, what is IMPOSSIBLE to source from Dealers !! Ok we have these safety first points out, lets heat the case with our heatgun for 1-2 minutes of 250+°C heat air :)

DSC_3561.jpg

DSC_3562.jpg

You see I was successful not to damage anything ! That day I did 2 ploprofs so I was so happy all went great and easy :) finally.. And after 5 ploprofs I can say I finally have the experience to do this without any damage.

Remove the glue from the indexes clear windows. You can also remove the bezel lume of the watch is self, so the lume will be ultra strong.

DSC_3563.jpg

Now use binder what is water resistant and mix the lume and paint the back of the bezel insert and you will lume it this way. Also use same mixure to lume the bezel of the case. Keep it dry for 24 hours.

DSC_4067.jpg

DSC_4066.jpg

You see the results ? amazing I can say ! So gen like :) finally no hollow effect, but nice solid fill like gen !

Put the crystal gasket back and push the crystal back with crystal press. Also put back greased crown ORINGS !!!

Prepare your bathed indexes and hands for relume service :)

DSC_3807.jpg

DSC_3831.jpg

DSC_3833.jpg

Keep it dry for another 24 hours and lets reassemble the dial :)

I always fix the indexes with small drop of GS hypo cement, just to be sure they are there. Please be careful not to put too much, as you can damage the dial it self, and use clean gloves to have clean dial and indexes.

DSC_3882.jpg

DSC_3883.jpg

Also put the GS hypo cement glue back to the pins to secure them even more :)

DSC_3884.jpg

Now we will use gen ETA movement that customer provided.

DSC_3899.jpg

But we need to replace the pinions as the movement customer provided had short pinions.

DSC_3904.jpg

DSC_3905.jpg

We will assemble the date to fit the datewindow and regulate the watch within COSC limits.

DSC_3885.jpg

Now assemble hands :)

DSC_3888.jpg

DSC_3889.jpg

DSC_3891.jpg

Assemble the whole dial with movement back to the case .

DSC_3911.jpg

DSC_3912.jpg

Grease caseback rubber ORING. And seal the caseback with right tool.

DSC_3913.jpg

DSC_3914.jpg

DSC_3915.jpg

Now lets put back the bezel insert and glue it back with gs hypo cement and small dial tapes that works great. Put them on the free space of bezel insert.

DSC_3916.jpg

DSC_3917.jpg

Check the bezel insert :)
