Expectations of a replica watch

Recommended Posts

I’m not a senior member, so maybe my opinion isn’t going to be shared by them. I think you are expecting a lot from the TDs. My experience is that they have a business relationship with the manufacturers to sell what the factories put out. Not saying that factories or some of the TDs will not do mods or special orders, but I personally will be weary. I know what movements I like, so when I choose a watch I search for specific movements. Yes, I know not everyone does that. This isn’t a science. Once I find the movement I want, then I try and find the watch I want with that movement. I would never ask the  TD to swop a movement for me. That is just me. I think that if you have a list of mods, you may well be disappointed with the result. Buy the movement and watch you want and have somebody qualified (many on this forum) to do the mods for you. Or even a watchmaker. In that way, you know what the end game looks like, almost guaranteed.

Before I get massacred, I have great respect for the TDs on this forum and it is not anything personal. I just think that mods is not their business and asking them to digress from their core business is taking on unnecessary risk as a member.

Thank you for the input.  You make some valid points in regards to what to expect from a TD.  I guess my point is that the TD if you send the parts to him or he can source the prats on your behalf would be able to bring the watch up to the level I mentioned of the V6s and the TC builds.

That was a very good answer, no disrespect in it, so I don't see why you would get massacred ;)

Most TD won't do anything of what you asked for, you are looking at a modding job, and not a TD job, some of them offer a service before sending, some can source you extra part, but very few if none will do any sort of work on the watch.
If you are looking for something custom, you have to search for a modder either here or on RWI (Replica Watch Info) or you can browse M2M here or on RWI for an old TC v7 or a modded watch.
Be aware that they are generally more expensive than a regular TD one

Thanks Glaude.  As I'm new here I'm just waiting on my membership status to be upgraded so I can browse M2M sales and look for a watch that meets my criteria.  Appreciate you taking the time to interact with me and provide some useful guidance.

Since you have now 6 posts, you have access to M2M sales thread, you can't sell anything yet, but you can buy something :)

You sure I can't find the Thread/Are for M2M sales?

I would just add that, for me, I've found that my purchases end up getting taylored around the movement as well (have bought on RWI). I know people are really fussed about a clone Gen movement (like the 3135 or 8400/8500), but for longevity I prefer the 2824 or 2836 clones. You can get them serviced easier, and swap out directly with Gen movements no problem. Besides, the watch back is covered or on my wrist with a display back anyways.
