PAB 0 Posted March 17, 2013 32 reps & 10 gens (not in pic), I don't have a ceiling on how many I get and and now investing quite heavily in good straps - straps are like rims for watches! Jesus! where did you get that box? :o

Thang 582 Posted March 18, 2013 I would like to keep the number under thirty but I have hard time to do that. Currently, I have about 45 working ones and close to 20 awaiting to be worked/fix. The biggest problem for me is that I could decide which one to let go
ImNotFatImFluffy 0 Posted March 18, 2013 for me it would depend on money, if i don't have much (which i dont right now) then one watch will be enough, if i could afford a choice 2 or 3 watches (super reps or gens), then thats how many i would have. since im like broke, working not many hours, im sticking with only having my orient mako XL . shpr543 0 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm a noob with no reps, but this website is like a good scotch...I can't stop!! My problem is I can't pull the trigger on anything because I keep researching watches, movements, TD's, etc. I have been learning a ton and have fallen in love with watches I have never even heard of!! I have seen a lot of discussion on whether to get some cheapies or just save for the good stuff...as with scotch, I have done both. I don't know if I should get myself a 21J Sub (on sale at Silix for $75 with ceramic bezel and saphire crystal) AND a PAM GMT for a few hundred total or just pay the extra coin for an ETA sub or even the big time BK sub. I also love the TAG Caliber 17 Aquaracer...whatever, I'm confusing myself as I type this...its probably because instead of having sex with my wife, I'm on this website every night. Help... greg_r 84 Posted March 18, 2013 You're doomed, mate. DOOMED Pick something that grabs you and jump in. Doesn't matter what as you'll be buying the other stuff later anyhow If you want some advice, though, be careful about cheapies. Some can be very satisfying, but others less so. I'd start with a quality watch - give yourself time to learn what to expect from a rep and it'll save you making mistakes with poor quality cheapies (which outnumber the good budget reps by a big margin). LightGeek 25 Posted March 18, 2013 I can't afford a gen so I'll get a few reps -- then a few more -- and then some cases -- and then some tools -- and more reps -- oh look a new 1:1 came out want that -- and more reps -- and more cases -- now straps... shpr543 0 Posted March 18, 2013 Thanks for the advice...it's tempting to go with the two cheapies because the pics look soooo good, but I think I will go with a quality one...now I just have to pic one!!
Chairman7w 0 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm thinkin' my numbers gonna be around 20. My currrent wish list is around 15, but it will grow, no doubt.
jeffrx 0 Posted March 18, 2013 There is a simple formula for this: If the number of watches you own exceeds the size of your penis (in centimeters), you have gone too far. For example, a guy with an 8 inch penis (8 times 2.54 = about 20) should own no more than 20 watches. The same guy with a 4 incher (4 times 2.54 = about 10) should only own 10 watches and no more. You say you have 12 inches, well then, you should be owning about 30 watches (but you are probably a liar). Simple, right?
dly02 0 Posted March 18, 2013 I only started collecting watches when I joined this forum. I only have three watches at the moment, but I'm looking for more. To answer the question "when is too many watches too many?", well, I think you know you've got it bad when you're more concerned about having your significant other walk in on you while you're looking at watches than when you're looking at porn. True story.
Breno 0 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm in the 20-30 bracket (gens and reps) and only wear 5(gens and reps). But I dion't buy all my watches to wear, some I just like to have, and some are investments. funkyfishter 0 Posted March 18, 2013 I've got 5 - PAM 111, Milguass GV, Submariner LV, PO Chrono and a IWC Miramar. I have only been collecting since December though but aiming for 10 ;-)
746_heuer 0 Posted March 19, 2013 6 is my limit, i don't collect, just wear. When I want a new one, first I sell one. I guess everyone says that when they start, but with a low budget that's easy to accomplish

LeandroBR 14 Posted March 19, 2013 Some will say that you can never have too many.. I disagree, for me a few really good reps are the way to go rather than 30 or so mediocre ones..though i confess to once having a collection of 40 odd. Dal.. +100000000 !!! Plus, we can't forget the straps ! Especially if you're a Pam lover (and we mostly are here). Straps can be really addictive !
RichardMiami 4 Posted March 19, 2013 How many watches.... the only possible answer is NEVER ENOUGH!! I have over 40 - but less than 50.. I think.. I need to cull, as I am now noticing that I am not wearing the cheapies or fantasy reps anymore, but I am wearing the quality ones over and over. If I do this right, I will sell off about 20 cheapies, and replace them with about 40 high quality reps! Does that sound right???? hmmm.. this "new math" thing confuses me.. Bash64 17 Posted March 19, 2013 I put the brakes on at 20. Now it is one out before a new one in. Upgrading straps and reps also. Need to upgrade my signature while I am at it, that doesn't come close to 20 and many are gone.
Pmcclean18 0 Posted March 19, 2013 When you think you have enough. Once the bug stops just a little and you start getting choosy. Thats the point at which you have a least 5 more than you need, and probably 10 more than is actually sensible. That's when you realise you have 8 PAMs on tan straps, and they kinda do look the same, and you only actually wear one I them.
Nnilswerdna 5 Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) I'm going to stop when I have 8 solid great quality reps and 1 unrepped gen. Hopefully...... Edited March 19, 2013 by Nnilswerdna
TheSav 2 Posted March 19, 2013 For me it's more about budget. If I like something, and can afford it, I will buy it. That's why I have 5 motorcycles. I can't ride them all daily but I love them all and they get their turn. When I get bored of one I sell it. It will be the same for me with watches. I currently have 4 reps with 2 more on the way. I'd like to own all the ones I like at some point, just maybe not all at once. I hope that I will learn and build up a nice collection of a few, read 10 - 20, really nice reps. But who really knows with this hobby/addiction/disease.
