black263 228 Posted March 18, 2013 I have been asked how I managed to remove the link from Reg's Tag Link watch to resize the bracelet, so I thought it would be easier to post the procedure, rather than try to explain on a PM. First thing to do is to separate the bracelet from the buckle. This is a push fit pin. The pin is actually a split pin with a widened end. If you look through a loupe at the pin in situ, one end looks like a screw head, and the other end is smooth The end that looks like a screw head is the fat end where you can see the two halves of the pin and the gap in between. The other end is smooth where the pin is folded over. You need to press or tap it out from the smooth end. Once the fat end is out, the pin is removed very easily. This leaves the link free. As you can see, one of the split links is indented, and one is smooth. The smooth link is a push fit onto a peg, and with a bit of wiggle and a few appropriate curses, can be removed. The peg that it fits onto is a screw which must now be removed. With the screw removed, the other half of the link is free to slide off. Refitting is the reverse of removal. Push the split pin into place so that the fat end is just sticking out, and then press or tap it into the buckle.
LightGeek 25 Posted March 18, 2013 Good work! If you haven't invested in a simple link pin (no pun intended) remover, go for it.
black263 228 Posted March 18, 2013 Good work! If you haven't invested in a simple link pin (no pun intended) remover, go for it. Normal link pin remover doesn't work on the Tag link bracelet. It would work to separate the links from the deployant buckle, but after that you have to do it this way.
HWG 11 Posted March 18, 2013 fanstastic, thanks for posting this! I just got the watch today, and have been tinkering with how to size it.

SSTEEL 0 Posted March 18, 2013 Great thread, and valued info/help. I was just about to carry out a search on resizing my Tag Carrera bracelet, and noticed this thread of yours. Whilst the bracelet on my Carrera is different, I assume the process is similar regarding that long pin. Need to check the ends with my loupe. Thanks for sharing! veritech 0 Posted March 22, 2013 Outstanding write-up. I actually took every link apart and cleaned everything individually (noting each piece so I didn't lose its spot during reassembly) then soaked in baby oil, laid out in pieces like a little SS brick road in a horizontal tupperware. Lots of disgusting grime on each link.
Pharmo 33 Posted May 30, 2013 thanks for guide mate. I would recommend people invest in decent quality pin pusher though
