Paul6754 0 Posted March 22, 2013 Does the "gold plating", whether it be triple wrapped, 5 layered or whatever, on a rep watch wear off in time. I'm not naive enough to think any "gold plating" on a rep watch costing under $1000 is going to stay around for ever but wondered what people's experiences were with "gold plated/triple/5-layered" watches in general whether solid or two tone. Frankt8242 1 Posted March 22, 2013 generally speaking, these days, gold reps are really a bad idea...Gold now costs $1600+ per oz., plated, filled, wrapped...whatever...you cannot depend upon the "word" of an industry that is involved in building illegal fakes to truthfully reveal how much gold you're getting...Our "TD's" will only tell you what their suppliers tell them..... Just forget about gold watches...You won't be disappointed...

LightGeek 25 Posted March 22, 2013 Wear them sparingly and gently then you're ok. Once they're scratched (through the wrap or not), you cannot polish or refinish it.
SSTEEL 0 Posted March 22, 2013 I have been wearing my TT Sub since I got it, really putting it through's paces all in the aid of research on the gold 5mil plating So far so good, no noticeable wearing off.
NFleischer 4,355 Posted March 22, 2013 They tend to hold up OK if you don't wear them alot. This one is about 5 years old, not bad, but I don't use it often.
SSTEEL 0 Posted March 22, 2013 5 years old? How much wear has it had though in the 5 years, and where did you purchase it from? Technology in plating has changed so much over the years, so much so that plating is very much more durable, providing you purchase from the right sources.
