jerkstore 14 Posted April 8, 2013 Ingredients: 1. Big crown case, softened 2. Dome HW plexi crystal 3. Explorer-style 6538 dial, aged and superlumed 4. Mercedes hands, aged 5. 2813 movement 6. Movement spacer 7. Lugbars 8. NATO strap After spending some time with a big crown before I gave it away as a gift, I realized that I freaking wanted one. Unfortunately, every TD is out of stock... However, Bonesey, a fantastic modder at RWI had a spare aged case (although the bezel was stuck). And an aged, superlumed dial. So, I picked them up. Now, how to put the thing together? I didn't have much experience with this sort of thing. But, with the RWG toolkit (plug for awesomeness here) and a lot of reading, I: 1. Replaced a busted cannon pinion on a 2813, put it back together and attached some dial dots. 2. Got the dial nice and centered on the movement. 3. Aged some hands (using the oven + my own Worcestershire sauce recipe), and set them. 4. Sanded down a spacer to fit the movement in the case, trimmed the stem to fit the crown, fixed the stuck bezel, and attached some lugbars. 5. Wore the watch. You like? I have some big ball hands arriving soon, but these will have to do in the meanwhile. I'm also taking suggestions for a better NATO strap. I had the black one lying around, but I'm looking for a regimental that goes with the watch.
J.Eric 693 Posted April 8, 2013 That' Nice! I have also had good success with the 'sauce' method.
DeLaForce 2 Posted April 8, 2013 Turned out nice I would fade the bezel a little and smooth out the crown . Congrats

jerkstore 14 Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) Thanks guys. It was a fun project. Not surprised that these cases are running out. They are pure classic. To me, the low profile domed crystal works much better than the stock one. I shot a video with my iPhone because I can't stop looking at it: Edited April 8, 2013 by jerkstore
