Super Reps - April 2013

Recommended Posts

James.

Ok, let me start off buy demystifying the term “super-rep” because it’s banded about on the forums waaaaaay too much. The only way IMO it should be used is to describe a rep that is 99% 1:1, no rep IS 1:1 or they’d just be gens. This is instead, more of a list of “super good looking and quite close to gen” list. This list is the cream of the crop, the best of the best in terms of accuracy and also as a direct result, popularity. I don't want members, especially new members, thinking this is a list of all 1:1 watches, no, instead this is a list to help guid you to the cream of the crop but always remember that a rep watch will always have its flaws.

I have used MemberX’s original list as a base point and built on it. I have included the majority of his original choices, especially those which I’m not familiar with such as Concord etc

I have NOT included modders builds such as RA/Phoung. I have only included those who only specialise in one brand, BK/TC/Concepta etc the watches listed are for the most part “out of the box”

Movements; Asian 2836 or swiss, unless the case back is see-through you get the same thing. All watches advised would contain either swiss or asian clone movements unless specified otherwise

Cases: I have included a few watches with gold/white gold/platinum cases in the gen. Obviously, the weight of the rep and gen will not be the same so keep this in mind.

I don’t profess to know this stuff as well as some other members, this is just based on my 2 years collection and reading online. If you have something to add or think something shouldn’t be there, shoot me a PM and I can update the thread.

NB some are better than others in terms of closeness to gen, however all are recognized as being very, very good and close to gen. Small differences from later versions may improve the overall 1:1 propensity of the watch but the earlier version, if applicable, should still be considered very good and accurate. Small differences to the gens such as the placement being off by a few millimeters of the “Swiss made” mark etc are inconsequential.

please note: Those marked *under review* are on the cusp of being removed from the list due to popular consensus that they may may not/should not be classified with the rest of the watches listed. This is a peer reviewed list and majority rules. The more people we have here giving input the better the list will be and more accurate.

While BK's offerings are very refined and in some cases, cosmetically and technically superior, how do you consider them "super reps"? They don't really fall into your "quite close to gen" category from an accuracy standpoint.

If the rehault is aligned (or shaved) it has a great insert, build quality & refinement (i.e. ability to accept gen parts etc etc) a strong movement and a decent DWO It's better that the $200 version. This list isn't of "super reps" as explained in the 1st paragraph, it's named/titled that though because thats a key word for searching for NOOBS so hopefully it'll steer them in the right direction and lower their expectations from this 1:1 bullshizzel

Good enough for me. Now go buy more reps. Your list is lacking :giggle:

for the VCO, i have made a comparison thread, i m not sure it should be regarded as one of the super reps, too many flaws, or did I missed the lastest version?

and I think the hublot 4000m Diver is V2 from HBB V6 factory?

Thank you :thumbsup2:

Should probably be stickied and replace the one in the newbie links (not that the old one was bad, but a list like this needs periodic updates IMO because of obsolete, out-of-production models).

re the HB there's multiple new version that are awesome but the versions depend upon which factory they come from, hence the "ultimate" because similar pieces are available from different places or equal or very similar quality.

re the VC, The ETA version is super duper good (I remember from your thread) with the only issue being the logo (which to be fair is rather small) and a slight misplacement of the "swiss - made" text. I'll update the OP to specify the ETA version

Nice post my Aussie friend.

I can't help but see there is no original "Ingy" listed, I am sure my 14hour work day is playing havoc with my eyes but is it ommited because it's long out of production and only available in m2m if you are lucky, very lucky I might add

There's a few on the list that are out of production but more recently. The new ingy models have other issues, I think putting it on the list might confuse people, though it is a very sexy watch, and i'm sure i'll get an angry PM from Graman for leaving it off

A pretty good list but the term "super rep" is subjective.

The Breitling section is not quite right though. ;)

Breitling:

  • Seawolf v2 all colours
  • Super Ocean Steel Fish (SOSF) v2
  • Super Ocean Heritage non-chrono v2 (this is now out of production but is the only SOH super rep)
  • Skyland Avenger chrono v4 (the v4 is the new benchmark with superlume)
  • Super Ocean Abyss 44mm
  • Super Ocean Abyss 42mm
  • Super Avenger chronographs v4

Indeed del, that's my point exactly ;)

ill update the breits when I'm back in front of a computer. I was borderline on Inserting a clause that any watch you photograph becomes a "super rep" by default

Firstly well done on a great thread semaj, I'll second the Ingy it should def be included and with the lello dw is excellent :suck: miss mine deeply !

Another one I'd put forward is the non chrono Black dial Tag 500M, it has a couple tells but is a fantastic piece with a quality feel to it..........

I'm on the fence, the gen has an open CB and the "sinn SZ04" engraving is not gold on the gen like it is on the reps. If it's going to have an open CB the movement needs to be spot on IMO.

yes actually, I forgot about that one, it has tells but not as many as the carrera chronos and is a beautiful watch.

Great post. The similar lists I've found like this are a bit dated, so it's nice to see a fresh view on the topic.
