Vintage Dial methods

Recommended Posts

I will soon receive a vintage sub from Mary and will try my luck at doing a little vintage job on the dial and bezel. It seems bleaching is the way to go on the bezel

but whats the best method for a dial. I have read about baking it in a oven and using uv lights. Anyone got any ideas?

UV light worked great on a Newman Explorer tha I had. I tried it again on Josh's 1665 Sub and it didn't do anything. So, it's trial and error.

Some people try tea or coffee, some use wood stain, some bake in oven. I've kind of liked a couple of dials that were smoked with cigar smoke although I'd rather throw the watch away than try it. Lot's of different possibilities out there.

Thanks KBH, just wanted to get some ideas. I may try the smoke or coffee method. A little cautious about the oven!

How about letting it out in the sun? Think that might work, or will it just ruin the dial?

I think that would probably take an awful long time to get anywhere.

Just put it in your slow cooker and add a bit of Worcestershire sauce.
