Review: Breitling Avenger Skyland v3

Recommended Posts

GC

First off I would like to thank Mary @ WatchIntenational, she managed to WOW me once again with her level of service, product quality & price! Mary, if you read this, you are tops in my book.

On to the watch...

The Breitling Avenger Skyland v3

In the world of reps you gotta know what kind of collector you are, i.e. "out-of-the-boxer", "modder" or "franken builder". The answer for me is "out-of-the-boxer", I have no delusions that I have the skills or the patience or for that mater the inclination to make a good rep a better rep. So knowing this vital info in advance, I know to look for what more experienced and seasoned rep collectors consider to be super reps. Reps that tend to be so good that, although they still have minimal flaws, you don't have to go and start modding the watch to be with in 97-99% accuracy levels.

Breitlings, I have been told, tend to be some of the best "out of the box" reps avalable, so being an "out-of-the-boxer" I started my search. So many models, so many dial configurations and so many colors to chose from. After coming across two fantastic reviews on the AS by By-Tor & Toad, pointing out all the subtle flaws and which versions they recommended and why, I made my decision.

This watch is just WOW! It has all the characteristics of a tool watch which I luv (big, heavy, thick) combined with a flawless super high mirror polish finish that makes it suitable for a night out on the town (because, like a magpie, we all know women love shiny objects...lol).

The dial IMO is captivating, not too busy as some Breitlings, yet definitly not plain or boring. At first glance it's the stencil arabic numbers that jump out at you, second glance the chrono dials and from there you start getting lost in all the details.

Then you start to move on to all the details of the case design, bezel, pearl, crown & chrono pushers...

Take a look at the case back, which is also done to perfection including font, model number & serial number.

From the case your eyes flow down following the bracelet's links which are done on a bias...

If you like Breitling, and you like tool watches that have a dressier side to them, but you can't pull off a Super Avenger at 48mm, than the Avenger Skyland at 45mm is for you! I know this and my DSSD, also from Mary, will be getting the most wrist time from my collection. Both are truly in the leauge of "Super Reps", which for me is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for reading

GC

Thank you scope, that's exactly the way I felt after reading By-Tor's review.

Beautiful watch and superb pictures! I can't wait to get mine back.

Thanks Doc, I opted to use the 1024x768 pic size for the review because I felt that

the 800x600 size I used in the pictorial lost a lot in translation from the original 1600x1200 size

I shot these in.
