Hi Guys, I got a Challenge from Mary & Rochest at WI earlier this year for my birthday. I absolutely

love this huge chunk of metal and wear it often. Since this is the v1? (I believe there is a better version out there,)

I thought I would try to make it better. Here is what I did:

-Bezel Painting.

-Rehaut Painting.

-Lume.

-Date Wheel Swap.

-Greased the O-rings.

Here are a few photos of the work....

Originally, with a little liquid courage

This has the classic 116117 Model number...

Case Back off. Yes I know it's not a Pam....

CIMG3426_zps6a16d42f.jpg

Rotor off and into a holder...

I had to "create" a die for my crystal press. I want to tell Everyone that this project would not be possible without my wife

donating one of her script bottles. Thanks baby!!!

One thick piece of glass

After removing the crystal, an x-acto knife made quick work of removing the bezel. Just wedge it in there and work your way around.

For cleaning up the residue from glue and paint, I use 100% acetone. Works really good, but if you are not careful,

It can work too good. And then you have to start over.

I then started painting. I used gloss black for the rehaut and chrome silver for the bezel.

In progress...

While the paint was dried, I removed the indexes and let the soak in acetone to remove the old lume.

And then it was on to the lume. I used W-101,from the RWG Shop. It is a white daylight, white glow lume. I have great success

with this product and would recommend it.

I had a GMT version of the same movement with a silver on black date wheel. I thought I would swap it. Why not?

After everything was dry, it was time to reassemble everything. Nothing spectacular. It all went together nicely.

Here are a few final shots....

I put it on a strap I got from Pohoho last year. this strap looks good on just about everything I put it on.

Thanks for looking Guys!

Nice work... Wish I had the cojones to pop the crystal out of my DSSD. I have a small touch up to do on the rehaut that is putting my OCD into overdrive

Congrats. I would be tempted to lume both the bezel, and rehaut too for fun.

Well done though.:)

I tried to do the bezel, it is not deep enough to hold the lume. Didn't think about the rehaut. Maybe tomorrow

How long did this take ya?

I only spent about 6 hours total over 3 days. Waiting for the paint to dry takes for ever.

awesome job! What glue do you use for placing the indices etc back on and how do you take them off without scratching the dial? Probable standard answers, but I'm a total noob :D just interested.

When you have dial removed, you can use a pin and push them through from the back side.

I used G-S hypo cement to glue them back on.

So since I will be having a lot less free time, I thought I would take a suggestion from SSTEEL

and lumed the rehaut. Here is how it turned out....

When I said lume the rehaut, I meant the rehaut engraving/lettering :mousepanic-r:

I tried to do the engraving, but my lume won't hold in the engraving. It's not deep enough or my lume

is too coarse. I will give it a week and see how much I like.

Did you manage to take the bezel off or just the insert?

I just took off the insert. The bezel is attached with an 8 sided spring clip, I don't

like taking these apart. They never seem to go back together quit right.
